Flipping from United 1k to to 1world

So ive searched and have not found the answer i was looking for

So here is the scenario

I currently live in the US (houston) and fly 12 round trips a year to Baku, Azerbaijan for rotation in the O and G community.

I just got approved to spend all my offtime overseas, and have picked Thailand for the first year...

Since im 1k on united, and would most likely being using Qatar to get from Azerbaijan to BKK.... what are my chances of getting an equal elite status on Qatar?

I want it mainly for the miles and ability to use the Elite lanes at various airports in Southeast Asia.. I am not concerned about the flights from Baku to BKK because i fly business/ first with my company paid flights.. But i know how much of a hassle some airports can be with no elite status.

Thanks

Thomas

Other than AB, OneWorld airlines are not known for status matching
In the AB forum
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/airbe...mier-gold.html
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/airbe...ir-berlin.html

Look in the QR forum http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/qatar...lege-club-644/

The airline you fly and airline you collect ff miles/status with does not need to be same.
But generally you are better being a ff member of the airline you fly most. Or an airline ffp of your home country [=AA]

GYD-DOH-BKK in GCM
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heydar...tional_Airport

Earn & burn are not the same with all airlines ffp's
QR would be down the list of earn/burn ratio

QR ff miles/points have a hard expiry. Use them or lose them. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/miles...-t-expire.html

Look here http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/onewo...help-here.html

The grass in not always greener on the other side
