I want it mainly for the miles and ability to use the Elite lanes at various airports in Southeast Asia. I am not concerned about the flights from Baku to BKK because I fly business/ first with my company paid flights.. But I know how much of a hassle some airports can be with no elite status.
Other than AB, OneWorld airlines are not known for status matching

The airline you fly and airline you collect ff miles/status with does not need to be same.
But generally you are better being a ff member of the airline you fly most. Or an airline ffp of your home country [=AA]
