Bonus Posting

The 6 Continent Bonus Posting appeared on AA today.

Got 50,000 out of the expected 100,000 posted to my AA account today. Called and was told they will look into it. Anyone get the full 100,000? I guess it means they may have counted Cairo as though it was part of Europe or something.

Got 15,000 out of 100,000. From last year's 100K bonus experience, I guess AA sometimes posts them in seperate sequences (last year's 100K came in by three postings). I'll start worrying if nothing changes in a week or so.

I got my 100,000. One of the continents was marginal - I flew to Africa on BA subsidiary GB Air, which may or may not have been a minor technical violation of the rule about having to use flights "operated by a oneWorld member airline," but they counted it. (There would have been major noise from this direction if they hadn't.)

Good luck to those who didn't get the credit they deserve. I checked with AA by e-mail in late August to see if I had all six. They replied that I had four. (One of the ones they missed, South America, was totally unambiguous since it was on AA's DFW-SCL flights.) After a bit more correspondence they confirmed six. I don't know if they put anything in my file to document that, but they were quite cooperative in terms of checking and verifying.

Evidently I only got 50,000 since i did not fly to asia. "What about my flights to singapore, hong kong, and tokyo" i ask??

"Those are in the SouthWest Pacific" the agent claims.

At this point i should have given up and called back!! However he buried himself deeper by then saying that Asia is only the Indian subcontinent. I told him I need to research that further and would call back.

I am sure it will work itself out with AA in the end so I am not worried and I got a little bit of a laugh also!!!

My 4 continent contest miles have not shown up at all for this promo, although they have posted my base and bonus miles. I called last week and they said they would look into it. Anybody have any reason why other people have gotten their contest miles and I haven't?

Richlond: Call them again. Singapore IS in Asia. That's where I flew to for that continent, having first checked with AA on this specific point. (I have no other flights that could possibly count for Asia by any stretch of the imagination, and have never been to India in my life - let alone on a oneWorld airline during the promo.) Southwest Pacific is Australia, New Zealand, and a very small number of nearby spots such as Papua-New Guinea.

MRKEY: I'd call them too. They missed two of my continents in their first look. If they missed two of yours they wouldn't think you should get a bonus.

Silver: same suggestion. Nobody has indicated any partial postings for this promo on AA, though BA posted miles as they were earned. I had four continents by mid-July, so if they were going to do partial postings I would have seen it. It looks like they waited until it was all over, scanned everyone's records and posted what they found. It also looks like they missed a bunch!

Thanks Efrem, I actually happened to be on the phone with AA on Saturday for something else, so got this straightened out as well. The first customer service agent admitted that one continent was missed so agreed to correct it for five, but claimed that Cairo was not Africa so denied the sixth continent. Next I talked to a very helpful customer service supervisor, and she agreed that all six continents were covered despite what the first agent said, and sent a message to the "bonus credit team" for correction. She told me that a special team was organized for this promotion and they are responsible for the postings. She also told me that they were behind schedule, and finally started posting the bonus miles from Friday. In any case, I've always had good experience with AA's customer service so I'm pretty confident all will go well. I'll let you all know if the miles are reinstated in a week or so. Wish me luck.

And finally, the last 50,000 miles posted today, under the name "Customer Service Bonus." Pretty funny. How're you doing RichLond? Any luck?

As in bonus in the Qantas program, or bonus for flying Qantas and getting credit in one of the other programs? If it's the latter, I have - Singapore-Perth round trip, flown on QF, counted by AA as two of my six continents for this promo.
