Boston to London

I am planning a RTW (J class) holiday in September and have the choice of traveling either BA or AA from BOS to LHR.

Should I choose BA or AA for this flight? Which is the better airline for seating, leg room, meals, service etc in biz class trans-atlantic flights?

Gary,

I haven't tried AA with their new business class seats yet, but from what I hear, BA's club world seat is definitely better even though they are older! Expect the new beds new year.

BA's seat is better, entertainment is better and BA's arrival lounge is the best there is!

Also, AA flies Airbus and BA flies 777 or 747-200 depending on the flight.

If you can fly ex JFK on BA you'll get the full flat bed seats in business class! Also remember, if you fly BA you won't be able to post the miles to AAdvantage.

If you're from down under and therefore in QF's program, the AA-BA trans-Atlantic bit won't affect you. You get points from either.

I'd go for BA on most counts, especially if you're in a 777. OTOH, if you can get 26A or 26J on an AA Airbus in coach, there's an entire row missing in front of you for the exit door. 26B and 26H (there is no 26I) are almost as good, especially if you like aisle seats: the space is occupied by a folding rear-facing flight attendant jump seat that's usually flipped up in flight. Leg room in any of those, except for B and H when a jump seat is occupied, beats anyone's business class. You still have a row in front of you - WAY in front of you - to stow stuff under, not a bulkhead.

I've decided to take BA out of JFK rather than BOS. It means me having to catch a short flight from BOS (or PVD if I choose) to get to the JFK flight.

BA has confirmed that the 777 flight I intend taking out of JFK does have the 6' flat beds. In any case it's only a 7 hour flight - not too long compared to most of the international flights us Aussies are used too!
