Flights to Central America

For the 100K bonus promo, I'm trying to find all the options of flights that are in North America for the RTW fare but South America for the promo.

AA services to BZE and AA/IB Services to SJO work but I'm looking at other options as I would like to do an Iberia or Lan Chile leg but Iberia's SJO service goes in the afternoon and returns in the evening - that would mean a hotel bill (which I know won't be much but I'm trying to go as cheap as I can with this).

Thanks!

LC doesn't operate any of it's own metal flights into Central America. Anything it does is a codeshare on AA via MIA/DFW.

All AA metal flights into C. America are direct non-stop from the U.S. You cannot fly on AA from one Central American city to another w/o flying back to MIA or DFW.

The list of airports are PTY, MGA, BZE, SAP, TGU, GUA, SAL & SJO

Note many (if not all?) of the IB flights are on AA via MIA

SJO isn't on the list?

And the IB MIA->SJO flight isn't listed as being operated by any other airline on IB's web site.

IB does actually fly MIA-XXX in central america/caribbean. Connects up to their MIA-MAD flights. Some of their old DC9s/MD80s (which they actually have a maintenance base for in MIA)--IB has about 500 employees in MIA!

Interesting. I saw their flights having same flight times as AA ones so just assumed they were AA operated.

I'd imagine it is a very expensive operation. Is it a remnant of their attempt to move into the Latin American market (when they purchased AR among other carriers)?

I actually flew on IB MIA-SJO... It was strange with my gf and myself being two of only 5 to get on in MIA. We thought it would be an empty flight, but when we got on it was full! Then on the return we were the only two to stop at MIA, everyone else was continuing to Madrid. great service, and very nice MD-80, though.

Are there any direct or non-stop OW flights from New York (or anywhere except Miami) to anywhere in Central America? I am looking for a one segment each way flight that will count as South America for the 100k bonus, but North America for the OW RTW fare.

Did I hear Iberia flying MD-80's from Miami to Madrid---Even if the MD 80 had the range I can not think of a more awful way to cross the Atlantic.

I believe AA has flights between Dallas and San Jose, CR.

Tango: No, IB does not cross the Atlantic with MD-80's. The MD-80 flies from MIA-Central America and back, and the MAD pax connect through a 747 flight from MAD-MIA and back. The 747 lands in MIA and all of IB's central America flights take off within an hour or so. And then they all return next morning, landing at MIA within about an hour or so of the 747's return to MAD. The pax soend the transit time in a transit lounge at MIA, and board before the people in the terminal, so when we got on, even though we appeared to be first on, th eplane was already full. To their credit, however, the IB MD-8- has the largest Y seat pitch I've ever experienced. It was quite comfortable. And the service was impeccable.

No, what you heard is that Iberia uses a fleet of MD-80's (probably DC-9's, actually), to feed their MIA - MAD service, which uses a 747-200.
