Missing Baggage on Re-booked Flight
Hi there-
I was checked into a flight traveling LGA-DFW-SYD (the first leg was on AA, the second leg was on QF) on Sunday night and was waiting at the airport to board when weather kept delaying my flight to DFW. After being pushed back a third time, I realized that I was going to miss my connection in DFW and decided to rebook my flight for the next day. Unfortunately this process took 2 hours because the ticketing desk was overwhelmed with other flight cancellations and I was unable to retrieve my checked-in baggage, but the AA baggage clerk assured me that my baggage would probably continue through to SYD anyway where I could then pick it up. However, the ticketing agent rebooked me onto a different flight completely and had me now on a flight from JFK-SYD via LAX the following day.
Long story short, my bags are lost and I am now in SYD but according to AA, my bags were last scanned in DFW. I have filed a claim with QF, but does anyone know what usually happens to bags that have been sent to an airport without their passenger who then travels on a different route to the final destination?!
Does anybody know how I can contact DFW's baggage services department?
Thanks!

If you flew QF to SYD your claim and tracking efforts should be made to QF. That is the industry convention: carrier of the last segment to the passenger's destination (actual, irrespective of ticket) does baggage claim/tracking/delivery/compensation.
