Why would seat be "blocked"?
Apologies if this is he wrong forum but I recently booked a flight with MH MEL-KUL, KUL-LHR and return in economy. I paid the relevant amount to reserve particular seats with the final leg KUL-MEL being 11K on an A330-300. It happens to be the front row in economy.
A friend decided he would like to travel with me and made the necessary arrangements on-line after I had given him my flight and seat numbers. When he came to reserve the seat next to mine for the KUL-MEL leg it showed on the webpage as "blocked". There were no problems with the other flights.
Would anyone be able to suggest a reason for this. I'm only OW Ruby so I can't see it being blocked for my comfort (although it would be nice to think so.
)
Would it be worth calling the airline, explaining the situation (obviously at present they don' know we are travelling together as the bookings were made on-line and separately) and asking if the seat could be unblocked?
Thanks for any advice.

Its because 11H is the Bassinet Seat position and that is most probably the reason why. You may try to call MH res and see if they will unblock the seat for you. They may not as most airlines will only release that seat when travelling with infants. But if they do, be aware that if someone with a baby shows up, your friend will lose that seat. And that you'll end up with a baby next to you for your comfort!
