Visit South America Pass - prices
I had the occasion today to phone the AA RTW desk to get pricing on the various zones for the Visit SA Pass (the Oneworld product, not Lan's own airpass) so here they are. Taxes and fees are not included. (I don't think, but am not sure, if Lan charges YQ.) Prices in USD:
Zone 1 Up to 560 miles (901km) $153
Zone 2 561-750 miles (902-1207km) $168
Zone 3 751-1280 miles (1208-2060km) $251
Zone 4 1281-1810 miles (2061-2912km) $285
Zone 5 1811-2300 miles (2913-3702km) $390
Zone 6 2301-3500 miles (3703-5632km) $480
Flights book into K, except intra-Argentina (B) and Easter Island (V).

taxes?
Anyone have any idea how heavy the taxes are on these tickets? ie if the base price is $156 for AEP-MDZ, are my taxes likely to be about the same as a paid ticket? On LAN.com, the base fare for a regular ticket is $202 +$35 in taxes, or about 15% extra in taxes.
UPDATE: so for my 3 one-way flights, the base fare would be $576 and with taxes the final total is around $635. I don't yet know for sure because AA told me it would take upwards of 48 hours for the rate desk to calculate the taxes! Like taking a trip back to the Stone Age...

I recently had AA price a Visit South America Pass for me, it took around 20 minutes to book, price and issue the ticket. Not sure why you're told it could take upwards of 48 hours.

What's the benefit of a SA Airpass?
My very first experience with an Airpass.
I've got 3 flights (4 segments in total) accross SA and was curious to see if I would have some benefit in booking these as an airpass. (All flights on LAN.)
Quote I got from BA came to more or less the same price as I would book them each individually. Certainly if I add their booking fee.
So, is there still an advantage in booking them through an airpass?
I've read somewhere that flights with an airpass can be changed? Is this correct? (only dates or also destinations)
Do flights with in an airpass fall in a special booking code?
Booking the airpass is quite a challenge. The RTW desk of BA can only be contacted by mail and it takes at least 2 - 3 days before you get a reply. (but the fares are only valid for 24hrs :-))

Do you meant the fare that was advertised on the LA website and discontinued about 6 months ago? The same fare that was about 15% cheaper via the US LA web site than the same flights booked via the Oz LA website (after taking currency exchange into account)?

Even if you can get such a Pass, its usefulness may be limited due to the lack of PE / J on most LATAM flights (ie the A319/320s). You don't see the 767s and 787s going south of EZE / SCL (which is where you really would appreciate PE / J).

It seems that LA have not (yet) reinstated their South American airpass. But residents of certain countries (eg Argentina and Peru) can AFAIK purchase domestic tickets at prices cheaper than foreigners. There are threads on the Argentina and LA FT Boards about this.

It was worth a shot asking. I'm in the midst of planning a trip to South America and trying to get my TA to price up a LAN airpass to see if it'll make the flights cheaper.
Flights are pretty much JFK-UIO, GYE-SCL-IPC-SCL-GIG-MAO-LIM-CUZ-MEX. A few have local carriers coming up cheaper, but by only $100 or so.

Are flights priced per segment or is it from origin to destination?
Example -
CUZ-GPS
connecting in LIM and GYE
Do you take CUZ-GPS distance (1796) or
CUZ-LIM 357
LIM-GYE 711
GYE-GPS 729
or GPS-IGR (4057)
connecting in GYE, SCL and AEP
GPS-GYE 729
GYE-SCL 2236
SCL-AEP 711
AEP-IGR 667
Does anyone have a list of current prices?

I've just asked BA - connecting flights are priced as one sector.
Zone 2 is $168+tax
Zone 4 is $285+tax
Zone 5 is $390+tax
Zone 6 is $480+tax
Cancellation and refund aren't allowed. There's a $50 change fee for international sectors and a $20 change fee for domestic sectors.
