As this is a generic question about the best oneworld FFP at Sapphire level, we'll move this to the oneworld forum where it'll get a broader audience more versed in the many programmes.

Considering making the switch from AA after being EXP or PLAT for the past decade. The recent changes to AAdvantage are really pushing me away considering the cranky service.

My A's to the Q's:

(1) What is most important to you in a FFP?
Lounge access, ability to get seats with more legroom in Y, and ability to requal from discount Y TATLs

(2) How many miles do you usually fly each year & in what class? How many flights/sectors?
50-100K, mostly in discount economy with the occasional discount biz thrown in. Will hit ExPlat this year on AA. Primarily fly TATLs so definitely not going to qualify on segments.

(3) What types of fares do you usually buy?
Usually discount economy

(4) Can you choose your airlines and/or class of service? Do you travel for work and/or pleasure?
I can choose my airlines. I mostly travel for pleasure these days.

(5) Which routes and airlines do you fly most often?
LHR-NYC, LHR-ORD, LHR-TXL, and other LHR-Europe routes.

(6) What is your home airport?
LHR, but I can use any London-area airport.

(7) Do you have FFP status of any kind in OW or other airline? What is it? Do you have any miles banked in a FFP?
Currently AA Plat, will be EXP next year, and about to hit Lifetime Gold. Just divested myself of almost all my banked AA miles.

(8) Preferred Airlines? Most common Airlines flown on?
JAL is my absolute favorite and I wish I flew to Japan more often. Other than that I have no strong preferences, except that I find BA intra-Europe to be a real eye-roller since they are now the same as EasyJet and its ilk even for OW elites-- no baggage allowance, no ability to choose seats if you're in discount Y.

Thanks for any suggestions....

Hi, I'll probably be moving to Chile, so I'm considering joining one of OW FFP, so that I could collect & spend miles in LATAM. While Latam Pass is most probable, I'll be happy to hear any suggestions:

(1) What is most important to you in a FFP?
Qualification in low economy, spending miles in LATAM, lounge access if possible.

(2) How many miles do you usually fly each year & in what class? How many flights/sectors?
I expect to fly Chile - Poland twice a year (+ one additional RT this year) in sth around semi-flex economy, approximately 20 Chilean domestic roundtrips (SCL-ANF) in discounted economy + 5 RT within South America in discounted economy too

(3) What types of fares do you usually buy?
Discount economy

(4) Can you choose your airlines and/or class of service? Do you travel for work and/or pleasure?
I can choose the airline within Chile/South America and suggest (up to around 20% price difference) on TATL. Those travels are work related.

(5) Which routes and airlines do you fly most often?
KRK-XXX-SCL, SCL-ANF

(6) What is your home airport?
SCL

(7) Do you have FFP status of any kind in OW or other airline? What is it? Do you have any miles banked in a FFP?
I have some Miles&More bonus miles, but that doesn't seem useful in that case.

(8) Preferred Airlines? Most common Airlines flown on?
LATAM

I generally think about LATAM Pass, but status validity perios makes me worry - if I get Ruby this year, it'll go away on 31 March 2017. I should be able to get Sapphire in the end of 2017, but well - again for 3 months only. But it'd give me a nice number of 800 KMs on Chile domestic routes even in low classes.

I was also considering BA - as from January they will have the most convenient connection from KRK to SCL, I can collect tier points for a year since joining, not a calendar year and status is valid for full year. But they don't give much for Chilean domestic .

Is AB TopBonus worth it?

I live in Austria and work in Germany. I am looking for a Visa or Mastercard, with either airline or hotel points, to supplement my American Express card.

I have researched options for cards in Germany and Austria, and pickings are very slim indeed. The only credible options seem to be Miles & More (which doesn't suit my style of travel), or Air Berlin.

I only ever fly economy class and am looking to redeem for Y flights with low fees. I don't really want another OW FFP, but AB seems to be my only option for my non-Amex CC spend (probably 10k/yr or so). Is AB worth it, or can anyone suggest another airline or hotel option, preferably in Austria? Would the HHonors card at 48/yr be better?

Current programs:

Aadvantage: 235k
United: 150k
Avios: 75k
Alaska: 16k
Flying Blue: 13k
IHG Rewards: 265k

No status other than IHG gold (miles earned and burned over 20 years, and not bothered about status).

Thanks in advance.

There seems to be uncertainty about the financial stability of AB. AB is controlled by Etihad
AA will not codeshare with AB from some time next year.

You have a lot of ffp overlap. Be careful about expiry http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/miles...-t-expire.html
AA & BA both Oneworld. AA & BA are both partners of AS

Thanks for this. I'm aware of the overlap, and I'm looking to rationalise my programs. That's why I don't really want to get involved in yet another program. Since the big BAEC deval, I've more or less kicked that program in and only earn avios from my UK credit card (which I can't change because I don't live there any more).

Much of my intra-Europe flying has been diverted to KL/AF, because they have good prices from ZRH. The AS program has never really got off the ground, and I'm beginning to think it might be surplus to requirements - the 8.5k redemptions ZRH/MUC-AMS/CDG-BHX/MAN on Flying Blue look tempting. Taxes are broadly in line with 2-sector BA RFS flights.

As regards the new credit card, I don't really think AB is for me. I wonder if I might be better diversifying my hotels portfolio instead? IHG don't seem to offer a card in Austria or Germany.

Hi,

I'm really new on collecting miles on FFP and still on researching but it is hard to collect all information together. I'm not sure if I should go with Qantas or other FFP.

Could you please recommend OneWorld frequent flyer program to credit miles for me? Thank you.

Questions
For members asking for information, to help people to assist you, can you please provide:
(1) What is most important to you in a FFP?
(upgrades on travel, priority services when flying the airline, extra baggage allowance, good award redemption rates, better award access, free - discounted lounge access, etc.)
Reply: Good award redemption rate and better award access

(2) How many miles do you usually fly each year & in what class? How many flights/sectors?
(<25000, 25000-50000, >50000 miles - <25, 25-50, >50 flights?)
Reply: <25,000 miles and around 4-6 flights

(3) What types of fares do you usually buy?
(First, Business, Premium economy, Economy, cheapest)
Reply: Economy

(4) Can you choose your airlines and/or class of service? Do you travel for work and/or pleasure?
Reply: Yes, I travel for pleasure

(5) Which routes and airlines do you fly most often?
(US Domestic, Transpacific, Kangaroo, in Asia etc)
Reply: Australia-Asia (SYD-BKK, SYD-NRT/HND) <<< This is the most often.
Australia-Europe (SYD-DUB, SYD-GOT, SYD-MUC, SYD-BRU)
intra-Oceania (SYD-AKL, SYD-WLG, SYD-CHC)
intra-Asia (BKK-NRT/HND)

(6) What is your home airport?
(SFO, SCL, London LHR, HKG, Singapore SIN etc.)
Reply: SYD, BKK (SYD is more often)

(7) Do you have FFP status of any kind in OW or other airline? What is it? Do you have any miles banked in a FFP?
(AA Executive Platinum, QF Gold, UA 1K, LAN Comodoro, etc)
Reply: I don't have any special statuses but I have 2600 mile points and 30 status credits on Qantas. However, I'm willing to switch if there is better program in long term investment.

(8) Preferred Airlines? Most common Airlines flown on?
Reply: None

Choosing a OneWorld program

Hello everyone,

I've read the "Deciding on a Oneworld Frequent Flyer Program? Help is here..." thread but could not really decide on which program to join.

My main program is Flying Blue and I have a flight with LATAM coming (NCE-SAO round trip, Business class, C and D fare bucket). I don't have a OneWorld program yet and I think this is a good opportunity. Here is my criteria:

- I am based in France but will be moving to Singapore in a couple of months

- I don't fly Oneworld very often so I don't expect to have huge benefits

- I would like miles not to have an expiry date (or a least a policy like you fly once every few months and it increases the validity of previously earned miles)

Thanks for your help !

When you move to Singapore are you going to be flying a lot? Personally I came to the conclusion that BAEC is best placed regardless but you need 4 segments in order to attain status.

Also look into Star Alliance as you will be best served by Singapore Airlines as well as Cathay Pacific (which is OW).

Thanks for the quick reply ! I think I'll be flying a lot from Singapore but i probably won't get to choose which airline (customer chooses). As you said, BAEC seems a good option as avios do not seem to expire if you earn at least every 36 months. With my itinerary it seems I could reach Bronze status, not many advantages but still nice to have

Good morning to all the members.
Towards the end of the year and the recent changes in the AA program, I want to revised my FF status and choose the best option, relying on your assistance.

Here are my details:

In order of importance: lounge access, seating options (Y class), upgrades on travel, , good award redemption rates

(2) How many miles do you usually fly each year & in what class? How many flights/sectors?
(<25000, 25000-50000, >50000 miles - <25, 25-50, >50 flights?)
Reply: >130,000 actual miles, around 10 roundtrips Israel Latam

(3) What types of fares do you usually buy?

Reply: Economy (50% Y rate and 50% discount economy)

(4) Can you choose your airlines and/or class of service? Do you travel for work and/or pleasure?
Reply: somewhat can choose, I travel for work

(5) Which routes and airlines do you fly most often?

(6) What is your home airport?

Reply: TLV

(7) Do you have FFP status of any kind in OW or other airline? What is it? Do you have any miles banked in a FFP?

Reply: AA EX PL and AF PLATINUM and LH FT (was senator untill last year)
I have banked about 400K in AA, 170K in AF, AND 40K in LH
