Changes to AONE4

I have started on the AONE4 and need to change the flights (namely dropping the LHR-DXB and DXB-LHR). Can you please advise if I need to have the ticket reissued if you are simply dropping these flights?

Qantas have informed me that I need to pay another $600 because they have to charge the higher fuel surcharges now!

Yes it has to be reissued.

That is unfortunate. Would it be possible for you to spend a day and just do those two flights?

If you are dropping sectors, then you are changing the route and thus the ticket needs to be reissued. This means you need to pay the US$125 change fee, any service fee charged by the airline making the change and any change in taxes/fees/surcharges (ie, the fuel charges that have increased since you got your ticket).

You will be better off just changing the dates/times of the LHR-DXB flights and do a turn. It takes less then a day (I did a LHR-DXB-LHR turn last year).
BA107/BA106 depart LHR 1250, return 0620+1
BA109/BA108 depart LHR 2140, return 1400+1
This may require a ticket reissue, but should not cost anything.

This is correct, other than Qantas may (and probably will) charge a service fee.

That's one of the benefits of having booked all my one world explorer's via AA; they tend not to charge service fees on revalidations.

I booked it on the Oneworld website and it was ticketed by LAN. Anyway I think if I wait till I get to LHR and have it reticketed there I should be able to save the fuel surcharge of MEL-LHR, is this correct?

ISTR that LAN do not charge Fuel Fines at all.

In which case you may have not paid any in the first place; if that's the situation no wonder Qantas are charging that much.

Irrespective of that, I would be contacting LAN to change your booking if at all possible.

You may be able to see what taxes/levies/surcharges that have currently applied to your booking here:
