It's a journalist and Qantas was mentioned. The word "Qantas" turns a journalists brain to mush causing them to either make silly mistakes or creating over the top rants in relation to expected irregular operations.

Damn it! I flew JetStar in November when I was in Australia, but couldn't get AA to give me any mileage credit even though it was associated with Qantas at the time. I could have used the extra miles!

You wouldn't be getting any miles for JQ coded flights in the future either.

Why not? If it's part of One World I should get mileage credit. It was a commuter flight between Sydney and Melbourne.

As has been noted above, the thread title is incorrect, and the news article posted in the first post is incorrect. Jetstar is not joining the Oneworld alliance. What actually changed was that Jetstar flights can now be booked as part of a Oneworld Explorer fares (ie Round The World tickets, Circle Pacific tickets, etc.)

Cost-issues for integrating their IT / marketing, particularly for Jetstar as a LCC.
