OK a couple more comments as a LAN elite flying AA, I now took my two return flights and not even my FF number showed up on my boarding passes. When I asked the check in agent to make sure the FF number was linked to the booking, she checked, said yes and stamped my first BP with the words "Gold Lane" for the express security in HNL. So on that basis they do see my status.
