LAN Lost Baggage - Please Help

Due to the major delay of our AeroGal flight from San Cristobal we just barely made our Quito-Lima connection. We were able to board the plane but our bags had to stay in Quito. We were on flight LA2589 on Oct 30. We managed to personally grab our bags from the carousel and personally take them to the LAN Quito check-in counter. There we were told to leave the bags and that they would be sent on the next day's flight. In the rush of it all we were not issued any baggage claim numbers but were made to sign a form saying we would not be flying with our bags and that they would come later.

The next day in Lima we tried to locate our bags to no avail. We had to fly on KL744 that evening Oct 31 at 20:35 hrs. We spoke to the supervisor of LanPeru baggage and she assured us she was on top of it. We filed a missing bag report and left with the assurance that they would contact KLM as soon as they located our bags.

To this day we are still unable to find out any news of the bags. As it stands since we do not have baggage claim numbers all we have to go on is that our bags were properly labeled with our information.

We have tried to get in touch with Lan Quito baggage but are unable to find a number that we can dial from abroad. The only numbers we find are 1 800 numbers valid in Ecuador. When we try their call centers they say they need the claim number to do anything and of course they never gave us one. Any advice or a valid number to call would be a big help.

I would try to contact LAN either in Chile (+56 2 687 2400)or in the US directly (1-866- 435 95 26). Also, if you can't call a particular 800 number it is always possible to use Skype which often works.

At least you have the missing bag report so that reference number should be of help. There is a fairly high chance that they will locate the bags and send them to you it might just take a while.
