OWE rule changes - Russia and "Stans"
Maybe I'm my usual tardy self and this has been mentioned - if so, delete me, Kiwi - but in looking at the xONEx rules I noted some new (to me) bits, thoughtfully underlined and bolded in RED - that look like accommodations for S7's entry into the product,
To wit,
...and...
Very interesting about Russia and the Stans...
To wit,
Continents are defined as:
Europe-Middle East (Including Algeria, Egypt, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Libya, Morocco, Russia both east and west of the Urals, Sudan, Tajikistan, Tunisia, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan )
Africa
(which together shall comprise TC2)
Europe-Middle East (Including Algeria, Egypt, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Libya, Morocco, Russia both east and west of the Urals, Sudan, Tajikistan, Tunisia, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan )
Africa
(which together shall comprise TC2)
(h) A minimum of 3 and maximum of 16 segments, including surface segments between
any 2 airports, are permitted for the entire journey. Free flight segments within each
continent are limited as follows:
Africa 4
Asia 4
Europe Middle East 4
(*not more than 2 of which may be between the UK and ALGERIA, BOSNIA &
HERZEGOVINA, BULGARIA, CROATIA, CYPRUS, GREECE, ISRAEL, LIBYA,
MALTA, MIDDLE EAST, MOROCCO, PORTUGAL, ROMANIA, RUSSIA, SERBIA,
TUNISIA, UKRAINE.
*not more than 2 of which may be between the Russia west of the Urals and Russia east of the Urals)

Just got off the phone with an agent at AA RTW desk. The agent said and insisted that the rule came into effect on 1 August 2010. Would that be the updated one on the website to which they refer?
I referred the agent to rule 4 but cannot get her to confirm nor can I get her to send me an updated fare rule...so am not getting far as to seeking a confirmation. Normally AA Agents are good but not sure why they are being a bit "funny" on this occasion.
Perhaps someone with access to a GDS could very kindly confirm whether this is the case?

It really sucks if it means one can't connect through the same point twice if it involves the same segment, e.g. most of my xONExs include XXX-xDFW-SEA-xDFW-XXX-xDFW-SEA... or some such.

My xonex's have often included similar segments. I wonder if christep still has cxagents access and could obtain the cx cx version of the rules?

I.THE SAME CITY PAIRS/SECTORS CANNOT BE FLOWN
MORE THAN ONCE IN THE SAME DIRECTION
MORE THAN ONCE IN THE SAME DIRECTION
Then I looked again at both the OWE and GlobEx rules as currently posted, and saw this:
(d) If the rerouting results in an increase to the number of [ticketed miles] continents or extra flight segments previously charged, the ticket shall be recalculated. Ticket may be reissued to any applicable Explorer fare validating all rules of the new fare except for restrictions on retroactive use. Rerouting penalty applies when the resulting fare is less than or equal to the original fare. No refund applies. See Upgrading provisions when recalculation results in a new fare basis at a higher value.

It seems like that this is the case then....what a PITA.
Honestly, the value of xONEx keeps diminishing in light of the price hikes over the last couple of years, along with the reduction of sectors from 20 to 16 and now we can't even have identical city pairs!!
I now have to begrudgingly route to KIX instead...it's not a big deal but this should at the very least be updated and made clear in the fare rules on OW's website. It's not rocket science...
It's a long shot but now that they take city pairs into account, I wonder if they will allow us to book open segments with city pairs (i.e. LON/NYC/TYO) instead of specifying an specific airport...

It certainly will as the longest S7 will operated the longest flight in Europe. But unfortunately Moscow is not well positioned for QFF purposes as many flights to/from are always just below the QF status credit earning thresholds.

the destination of one coupon could be say LON
and origination of the next coupon could also be LON
and the fact that one was say LHR and the other LGW didn't matter
The 'enhancement' of going to eTicketing resulted in this being lost, along with the 20 flights
