Checking luggage through on layovers?

Checking luggage through on layovers?
Im transitting in HEL on Finnair. Would they check my luggage through even if Im on layover (overnight) ? Dont want to bring through customs. Or if not maybe I could recheck after arrival, despite flying the day after?

It was a 23h 55 m layover and they checked the bags through.
On the outbound there was a 1 hour delay at baggagepickup, so the servicedeskrep said they would keep the bag there to be picked up on the connection the day after:-)
