40 minute transit time in Jakarta?
Hi all, is 40 minutes transit time in CGK enough to go from CX to a QF flight?
My folks, who are approaching their 70s, aren't exactly fast walkers. If they arrive at CGK at 8pm, and the next flight leaves at 8:40pm, is that sufficient?

So to expand on that, it wouldn't be bookable on a single ticket, but if they have separate tickets then they can take the risk. Last year I did a same plane turnround at CGK which meant going through the International Transit which is essentially just one bored looking guy with a basic scanner at the bottom of a flight of stairs up to the departure level. We were in the lounge within 15 minutes of getting off the plane and it's a fairly small terminal, so we would have had no problem getting a flight 40 minutes later. Obviously we had boarding passes in hand, so you need to do an online checkin I guess since CX almost certainly wouldn't issue the onward BP at HKG and check-in may close before you get to a transfer desk at CGK.
However, there's no way you could do it with checked in luggage because you won't be able to check it through and you don't have time to go and get it and recheck. And even a 10 minute delay in arrival of the inbound is probably going to blow your chances, even with hand luggage only.

To add to that, much of the time the transit desk at CGK is unmanned. The lounges are unable to issue boarding passes. While there are ways to get around this, it will take longer than the 40 minutes transit time. I would not do this connection even with carry on only and able to run around to make a tight connection.

Last time I was at CGK it took 40 minutes just to get through the Swine Flu scans. The transfer desk was not available so you had to go landside which required to buy a visa, required to pay airport departure tax and then security again. The entire procedure took more than one hour with hand luggage only.

agreed with all ... Also you said it yourself that your parents aren't the fastest walkers out there. The hallways at CGK tend to be long!!! I have yet to find a short hallway from the jet bridge to the immigration/transfer desk.
Also has one said, if they have a checked luggage, there's no way to retrieve it and re-check-in in less than the amount of time they have.
If I were you, have them layover in CGK ! There's a decent Sheraton nearby the airport. This way they don't have to stress up trying to catch their connecting flight.
