Voyages Ayers Rock 50% off sale

Saw info on another site about Voyages 50% off Uluru resorts for standard 3 night package if you book before December 13, 2009. Travel until March 31st, 2010.

Go to: http://www.ayersrockresort.com.au/ and on the right hand side, there's a drop down menu for "select rate" on the next page. Just make sure "7 day sale" is selected there and you'll see the discounted rates. The Outback Pioneer hotel does not appear to be included. Happy travels!

What, you don't want to rent a car and drive from Melbourne???

More seriously, with a bit of planning you can do this in two parts and possibly save a bit of money. First search for a cheap fare into Alice Springs, snag it, and then wait for a cheap fare from Alice Springs to Ayers Rock. It will invariably be less than what they charge for a normal routing from anyplace to Ayers Rock.

Oh, the things I learn after my trip! Guess that means I have to come back sometime? ^

Luvtravel - Thank you so much for posting this! I had booked a much higher rate at Sails in the Desert. After seeing your post, I got them to match to the discounted rate at check in. Saved quite a few $$$!

YMMV, but based on some rather extensive poking around yesterday, it's nowhere near this simple.

Only Qantas flies from Alice to Ayers. Advance booking fares start at $160/one-way and go up as the plane fills up; you'd have to be pretty lucky to get a seat any cheaper than that. However, if you fly Qantas from somewhere else to Alice and then connect onward to Ayers, the combined fare is cheaper. Eg. Melbourne to Alice was $179 yesterday, but MEL-ASP-AYQ was $281 --> $58 less than buying separately, and a guaranteed connection to boot.

The bush fly in the ointment is that the cheapest way to get to Alice is not Qantas, but Tiger. Tiger's currently offering MEL-ASP flights for $70 all in, meaning that TR+QF to AYQ would be just $230... except that the connection timings are all wrong, forcing you to overnight in Alice on the way back and thus blowing away any putative savings.

And to veer this thread back on topic, Voyages' "50% off" seems to be a permanent fixture in the off-season: the single night rack rate at the Sails in the Desert is $650, but I just snagged two nights for $619. (The official site says $329/night, but Wotif has some nights available at $290.)
