It also does not sound like it would have been possible to reroute around DTW since the MCO delay was on the tarmac and there was no way to know prior to boarding.
Tom, you are correct, we had left the gate and were sitting on the tarmac before knowing how late the plane would be. Only after arriving in DTW were we faced with the choice of how to arrive in LON. NWA has one flight a day to LGW to DTW, the AMS flight could have gotten us into LON a couple hours earlier the following day, but we didn't want to risk another connecting flight after what we had been through.

As a resident of Florida the snow, ice, and freezing temperatures I experienced walking from the shuttle bus into the hotel was enough. After checking out we spent 9 hours in the DTW terminal.

For that layover I'd have purchased a 60-day WC membership.

Well we beat UofM 4 straight times, so it doesn't appear as though they've fared better

We were surprised that NWA agents did not hold the plane since I'm sure they had access to our arrival information, but I guess NWA values on-time departures more than customer care.

The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.
