Tired of the DC-9 back-to-backs
I'm researching various options for my upcoming, exciting MSN-EWR roundtrip and I've decided to choose my flights based on aircraft, so that I have the opportunity to possibly try out 4 different FC cabins.
I know that pax choose certain flights based on aircraft, but has anyone done this to vary the aircraft, in order to have the most diverse flight experience?
I am currently looking at booking the CRJ900 MSN-MSP, A320 MSP-EWR, A319 EWR-DTW, and ERJ175 DTW-MSN. The FC cabins look pretty wide open and with my CO Gold status, I might have a chance at getting the UG (although fare is T). I could also co with a NW/CO combo and sit in a 737-300 and possibly a SAAB.
Should I book the RJ itin and hope for an UG and a chance to check out these new FC cabins or go with the all-mainline service and still have a "decent" seat if not upgraded (even if it means 4 DC-9s)?

Well, given the title, I have to comment: A DC9 is always better than a one class CRJ!
But to your real issue within the post:
The CRJ900 does have FC (12 seats), but don't bother trying to get a roll aboard in the overhead bin. You will still gate check it with that aircraft. Headroom is still tight (I'm 6'4"). FC is fine, service can be spotty and don't expect a meal.
The ERJ175 also has FC (12 seats) and full sized bins for roll aboards (get there early, they fill quickly). It also has headroom, at least 6'6". FC is fine, service can be spotty and don't expect a meal.
The 319 and 320 can speak for themsleves.
Lastly, any of the above equipment is probably better than the DC9, but not by much. Personally, I would avoid the CO 737s as they have so few FC seats, upgrading, even as a platinum is hit and miss.
