Is this Fair?/ ticketing
Can some expert tell me if this is true? Although a Plat. for 10 years I can never understand these tix rules.
When you make res. and have a 24 hour hold what do they gurantee?
I went to purchase my LAX-PEK ticket the next day and the res agent says that it they no longer have the M class seat so the new price is business class at a charge of $2,500 more than quoted in original res.
Can they do that? To be fair the orginal woman who made the reservation said that the price was not being held but just the reservation. I thought that meant they hold the M class seat and if there was any change in the fare of M class seats they would charge the difference. It looks like they don't even "hold" the fare class. Is this right?

I would pay the fare immediately and if necessary cancel it by midnight the next day.
Purchasing the ticket immediately would allow a full refund without any penalty.
if you need to cancel by midnight CT the next day.
That way you know you have purchased the ticket at a price you can live with.
Holding a ticket on a 24 hold guarentees nothing!
Good Luck!

The official NW "Customer First" policy allows a refund w/o penalty of a ticket purchased within 24 hours, other airlines (CO for example))will hold a reservation and price.
I ain't sure if it applies to international tickets.
Caveat emptor!

The agent may have just parroted the normal "bla bla bla your fare is not guaranteed until purchased bla bla bla".

It may be, and I'm taking a shot in the dark here, that the rsvn agent put a M class waitlist seat on one flight on hold for 24 hours. Then when you called back it had been actioned as 'not available' the next available seat was a big jump in price.
Just a guess.
