Suggestions for redeeming FF points
I've been flying with NWA for 2 years and only recently tried to use my points. I went to book a trip for next month, but found out that all the FF seats have been sold. My only option is to use double the points to purchase the seat. My questions it what strategy do people use to redeem their points? Do you have to plan your trip 4 months in advance?

It might be helpful to understand that I want to go from DTW to PDX next month. And from DTW to AMS the end of September.

Welcome to Flyertalk. Personally, I NEVER use double miles to book anything. I find that I can either book far in advance or with very little notice. It's the mid-range planning that tends to be troublesome.
