Standby In Different Class Question
I am booked on the red eye on 6/12 from SFO to DTW. I am PE and EUA failed to clear so I am in coach for now.
If I choose to fly out earlier same day say on the 6AM-8AM flights, can I standby for 1st class?
So what do I say to the check-in folks or am I only allowed to standby for coach?

As a Gold, I have done stand-by for earlier flights on several occasions, and when FC was open have got the upgrades too. I think the upgrade automatically happens, if available, when they check you in. As always, you may make a request.

Just a thought, are you a PE with FD or WP? If you are a FD PE, EUA has its funky ways of upgrading, so you need to call reservations sometimes. If you a WP PE, check out itn.com and see if there are any F seats available, if yes, call reservations and will upgrade you, if not, you probably will be upgraded at the airport (provided there are still P seats available).
To answer your question, you can standby for First, it depends on which list you are on. If the agents tells you otherwise, ask for a supervisor.
Cheers

Thanks all.
I called and viola! they had a seat. So I am now upgraded on my original flight.
That should make standby much easier.
