How can we be so sure that the source for these "terms" is reliable? If these rules are correct it doesn't really sound like it pays to fly DL as a WP member elite member. Why would I fly DL when I can fly NW or CO and upgrade? I'm a little disappointed, it doesn't really seem like this will benefit the elites at all.

msprsa has been very reliable in the past. The suggested alliance conditions fit well in the context of a new alliance - get points but keep the upgrades/redeeming points to sort out later.
For now I suggest to fly your current airline (NW/CO for me), get points if you fly Delta but nothing else for now.

As far as the information source, I would agree that this person has an excellent track record. We are fortunate to have some incredibly knowledgable, insightful, and courteous folks on the Northwest board from within the company. Their insight is greatly appreciated.

Well, I thought the point of alliance is to expand the route network available to travelers, not to encourage your FF's to fly on competitor's metal. It would be silly for NW (or and of the three) to offer inducements for you to spend your money elsewhere. With NW/CO, I thik there is hope for a long term merger in the future - when the alliance has become so integral to each airlines customers that they can't bear the thought of the end of the alliance. I don't think that is the attitude NW has toward Delta...
Actually, I can see a good alliance leading to a little route contraction. Why should CO or DL have huge trans-Pac operation when they can route them via NW, IN RETURN FOR NW doing the same to South Amer. via DL or CO, and vice versa. THen the alliance is tigher, more necessary, less likely to break up

I recently talked to a Delta agent and she said that miles can be acquired on Northwest for flights on Delta in November.

Well, I thought that maybe DL moderated there elite program for the time being so they could make a few extra bucks, before switching over to a program like NW and CO. I guess I thought wrong. I guess I was just expecting more from the alliance then others.

The only benefit that I see for myself are Delta's last-minute weekend fares which I can use to get away whenever I feel like it.
It looks like I'll be able to earn at least some status miles on them.

I am flying ATL-CCS-ATL on a 737 in BE.
Is this a similar experience to WBC on the 320 that NW uses in the Asia market? Something better? Something worse?
