Switching FF Numbers

Am in the process of switching FF accrual from CO to NW because of NWs generous promo offers (Mile-A-Palooza, etc...). I received status on NW because of a promo offer - the wife is Silver on CO with no status on NW. Is there a way that she can benefit from EUAs from her CO account while accruing the flight miles in her NW account?

From the threads I've seen that agents won't make the switch at the gate without taking away the FC upgrade. But can the change be made at the kiosk or NWA.COM check-in without losing the FC seat? If this system worked for outbound flights, I assume that we'd have to call and add the CO FF number back to her reservation and then repeat the process for return flights. Anyone have any experience with this?

My wife is in the same boat: Silver on CO and nothing on NW. We just got back from a trip with 2 legs each way. Wait for the first legs to do the automatic upgrade and then change at the airport. The next day, call in and change back to the CO number. Wait for the upgrade and change at gate on the return. We had no problem at both airports with the agents changing the FF#, but wait until you get your boarding passes and then ask for the change in the computer.

Most times it works, but sometimes the computer gets screwed up and you get some mileage on both airlines. Just request missing mileage and they will correct.

If you are checking in at a NW counter and flying NW metal, there is no problem. It is the CO agents that are taking away the upgrade if you are an elite on CO and then switch to EARN on NW while flying on CO metal.

You should not have much of a problem as long as you stay with NW.

Does anyone know if this would work with an AS/NW itinerary? I'm flying SEA-LAX (AS) and then LAX-MSP-BNA (NW). It's entirely a NW ticket, with my NW (Gold) # entered. I'm wondering if I could wait for the EUA to clear, then switch to AS # at the airport. This is complicated by the fact that as an MVPG I had the first leg upgraded, and don't want to have that disappear. I'm already expecing this to be a mess - after I did the "manual" intervention with AS, I logged back in to NWA to find 3(!) SEA-LAX segments shown on the outbound. It did correct itself after several days though - very strange. Anyone else have this situation or switch back and forth between NW & AS on combo itineraries, trying to maximize upgrades?

I know NW on-line check-in allows one to change their FF number, so you could book on NWA.com, using your CO elite number to get the EUA, then switch it at check-in on-line and still get the upgrade, while putting your miles on NW.

I do believe the CO kiosk will also let you do this as well. Never tried the CO.com web check-in coz I don't fly them anymore :-)
