Oct 5 I travelled MSP-MEM, was delayed due to weather. Got to MEM just in time to watch my MEM-BHM doors closing from terminal B to C connector window. Routed to DL MEM-ATL-BHM in terminal A, got there and saw that the MEM-ATL was delayed enough to miss my ATL-BHM flight. So, got on next MEM-BHM NWA flight, though got to enjoy MEM airport for next 5 hours
.
However, when my miles for that day were posted, I saw an addition bonus of 250 EQM posted to my account. Now, since I will qualify on points, not miles, it makes no difference to me, but I just wanted to say that it was a very nice gesture for NWA to do this, as I was no expecting it at all, especially since problem was weather.
Thanks, NWA!

I think you are right, but why would they do that? I have missed the earlier and been booked on that same later flight before, but not gotten a bonus.

They will rebook you into the lowest available class (thats not lower than your original) on the next flight. Simply, if the flight only had Y seats for sale, thats what you get rebooked into and thus treated as a Y customer.

Due to a canceled flight of mine last month I was rebooked into a paid fare class though flying on a freq flyer ticket. So I ended up getting 500 EQM/RDM for the short flight. With all the hassles NW has given me lately, it hardly even starts to compensate me for it!

I have rarely if ever encountered situations where any "extra" EQMs appeared in my account, and have generally remained silent about them, lest it come to the attention of those in authority, who might decide it had been a mistake.
The one time I can think of where extra EQMs "deservedly" appeared was a situation like that described above - a partner airline rebooked me in a higher fare class, and I got the EQMs for that fare class.

Over the past year or two after reroutes that are booked in Y, F, or P despite my original K fare, it is about 50-50 whether the EQM's come through for the higher fare class. Often it is put on hold and listed as "Q", which probably means it is waiting for somebody to manually review it and finalize it as (typically) flown: F paid: K (no EQM's).

>>>>>No EQM's for K? Por que?
Sorry--to be extra dubbly bubbly clear: no bonus EQM's for previously being listed as having flown on an F fare after the F/F booking was put into a queue until someone then manually corrected the automated F/F listing to accurately reflect the original K booking so that only base EQM's were awarded.

If there is limited space, you will be booked in a higher class. I also think that some agents book you in a higher class when they know you've had a rough day so you can get some extra miles or perhaps an upgrade.

And getting rebooked by one of the outsourced agents who is a bit confused as to what you are asking for can lead to very exciting results.

On the way back from the CO DO I only had W to L
Better than nothing
Last year on the way back from the DO, I got bumped (you were right behind me) and it ended up they really didn't need me but bumped me anyway. I need to go to more CO DO's!

I wonder if NW's computers are getting better at figuring these things out.
I had a flight earlier this year, LGA-MSP-ANC, missed it, and had to take HPN-DTW-ANC. It was an award ticket. A few days later, the HPN-DTW-X segments posted as revenue flights, in Y no less. A few days after that, the miles and EQMs were gone, and the N appeared - as it should. Would have loved the miles, although getting EUAed on DTW-ANC on an award ticket in summertime made my day.
In years past, if you had NW flights and were booked onto a different NW routing because of ir opps, that often would book into Y. Ah, the old days.
