Perksaver vs Perkpass availability

2 Questions please-
A. I'm trying to book a trip from dtw-hnl Feb 8 -15 using points
When I plug in the dates the calendar that comes up shows a color code for Perksaver vs Perkpass but the calendar shows only blue on the whole month.
How can I get it to display the dates when Perksaver is available.
I am flexible to a certain degree.
I can get Perksaver on the outbound but not on the return

B. I would like to book my son from YOW to HNL at the same time but the only thing that comes up is Perkpass. Is Perkpass the only option when flying from Canada?
Thaks for your help

The best way to get only Perksaver only is to search using that function instead of best available. It will also pull up Perksaver First class which is fewer miles than PerkPass coach on domestic flights.

Each market is different in what they offer in PerkSaver availability. And of course what's available is very dynamic so people often check back very frequently. Since PerkPass is basically always available as long as there is one seat open, waiting and searching often can be fruitful, though very time consuming.

Good luck!

Award availability in February to Hawaii is probably pretty tight at this time and I might expect not a lot of PerkSaver flights to be available.

If you have status on NW make sure you log in first as there is generally better awards availability for those with status than those without

You might have to bite the bullet and speak to a NW agent directly.

Finding PerkSaver availability is one area where live agents still shine brighter than the web site. Found no PerkSavers in business to Europe in early October, but one call to the WorldPerks line solved that problem, with all flights on NW, no less.

HNL is a very popular market for award travel. It's never easy to score PerkSaver tickets to HI. Some tips:
- Look up the guide to award travel thread; there is lots of useful info there!
- Check www.nwa.com/jp; it shows much better availability. When you see something open up call right then and there and book.
- Remember to consider partners: I've been pretty successful finding availability to HNL on CO (connecting in either EWR or IAH). You get food and movies in Y, which to me makes it a preferable choice. Also consider DL.
- If you call to ask for availability, be well informed! Check out some possible itineraries (also incluging partners) and be ready to suggest them to the CSR.
- When you search online, have up to 50 flights displayed. The more options, the better.
- I found the calendar to be very randomly colored. Dates that the calendar showed no availability had PerkPass seats; dates colored "PerkPass may be available" had PerkSaver seats, etc. Ignore the colors and just look at the miles.

Good luck!

Routing Increases Mileage Requirement?

I just discovered this the other day and it does not seem fair:

Point A-DTW-Point B (OUTBOUND)

Point B-MSP-Point A (RETURN)

PerkSaver Available All Cabins 37,500 for Coach Class?

A return trip through MSP was considered an irregular routing. I don't understand why it matters? The trip is entirely domestic and Perksaver is avail in all cabins?

Anyone seen this happen to them?

I can only speculate, but I think it has to do with whether it is a "legal" routing or not. It very much depends on what points A and B are. For example, I've flown DAY/CVG/CMH - BOS/PVD about a dozen times in the past year or so. I've NEVER been able to get a routing through MSP (and score more miles); it only allows me to route through DTW. From what I've noticed, from a place like BOS if you travel to the Western destination then you go through MSP or MEM. If you travel to Eastern destinations they usually route you through DTW. Some places give you a choice, while other routings are inflexible. If I wanted to go DAY-MSP-BOS I'd have to do a multicity ticket. Maybe it's one of those cases.

(Again, just speculating...)
