First Class Upgrade for thre silvers

What do you think are chances of upgrade to first for three passengers on DCA-DTW sector for midmorning flight when the avilability 24 hours before shows P7 F0?

Sorry about misspelling in the thread title.

Edited to apologise for typo.

It depends on everybodys status

usually if there is no F then no you wont be auto upgraded and dont even bother calling as res wont be able to upgrade unless F is available and all members are elite.

also no need to call res when doing a elite upgrade as the system automatically upgrades all elite members as long as everyone in the record is elite. if no F available it will automaticaly put you on the standby list!

hope that helped

Sorry to have not given complete information. All three of them are silvers and have been rescheduled from a flight that was eliminated in the new schedule.

In my DCA experience, it depends more on the day of the week. Monday and Friday's 9:25a, your chances are pretty low. But the 11:00a mid-morning DCA->DTW is a pretty good bet for Silvers.

If you've got the option to connect through MEM instead, you'll find much better chances. Not once have I ever sat in the back on a DCA->MEM flight, and the travel times are similar if you're connecting.

Thanks Lance. I noticed too that the availibility for upgrades on 11:00 am DCA-DTW is very good. They are leaving on THursday to connect with NW85 to NRT, which departs at 12:45. NW229 departing DCA at 11:00 is scheduled to arrive at 12:37 P.M. My wife is travelling with children, all Siliver, so I don't want her to have to rush. I had thought of swtiching to the later flight, but decided not to.

One never knows if a Plat will add a companion to the list, that will reduce your chances, unless your upgrades come through at the Silver window.

Plat Companion supersedes a silver? Right now there are 7 seats in P bucket and none in F. Of the nine seats currently assigned, those that haven't been purchased as First or ugraded from Y fare, have obiously gone to golds and plats. So I guess, it just deoends on how many giolds and plats are still waiting for upgrades. I have never got a straight answer. For a flight departing Oct. 31 at 9:25 A.M., the silver window was last night, midnight, or has it yet to arrive?

Their original flight was from BWI, on which my wife already been upgraded as of yesterday. I don;t quite understand how that happened.

No. Not on NW. On CO, they do.

When that happened, you should have tried to get them to place her into a P seat. They have done this for me when things got messed up on a flight. The added benefit of this, of course, is that the record then shows P as the booking classes and you get the 50% elite qualifying bonus.
