If you've got the option to connect through MEM instead, you'll find much better chances. Not once have I ever sat in the back on a DCA->MEM flight, and the travel times are similar if you're connecting.</font>
Thanks Lance. I noticed too that the availibility for upgrades on 11:00 am DCA-DTW is very good. They are leaving on THursday to connect with NW85 to NRT, which departs at 12:45. NW229 departing DCA at 11:00 is scheduled to arrive at 12:37 P.M. My wife is travelling with children,all Siliver, so I don't want her to have to rush. I had thought of swtiching to the later flight, but decided not to.
