Why not upgraded?

Does anyone else have the problem that they're not upgraded even though their status meets the criteria for being upgraded?

IE I'm a gold elite, and have had multiple times where i've been within less than 3 days of my flight time and when I called in to check my seat, I haven't been upgraded. Shouldn't NWA and CO automatically upgrade me if there are seats available? Why do I have to call in and have them do it?

Thanks..

Tim

Did you get the upgrade?
One possibility could be that you purchased the tickets when you were not gold and then forgot to call in and have the PNR changed after you did reach gold status. It is not done automatically and it happens to a lot of folks.
I am assuming that this is what happened as you did not say that it was working all right in the past but it is not working now.

Uhhh... maybe you left out too many verbs when booking your ticket

Seriously though, could be a computer error or your name might not be in the PNR exactly as it is in your WP account (that has been rumored to be a problem here on FT.)

Also, just because there are seats available for purchase doesn't mean you'll get an upgrade, there must be seats in the F bucket 3 days prior.

And like magic said, if you booked the ticket as a silver, that's what your record will indicate (it happened to me when I went from silver to gold.) You need to call NW and have them update that ticket.

I've been gold all 2002, so the silver to gold issue is not the reason (for my problem, at least). I have also checked my WP account, and it matches the name that is on the tickets that I have been getting lately.

I have called in a day ahead of time (instead of the 3 day period that It should be upgraded) and when I talked to the agent, they have mentioned "thats weird, you should have a seat...." and will go ahead and give me a FC seat.

I may be grasping at straws, but I have noticed that this problem has seemed to happen just since NWA upgraded/modified their reservation system. Could this be the reason?

I've had absolutely no problem in the last 4 years of being Gold (1year) then Plat (the rest).

If seats are available, I get a big one via EUA. Ever since the agreement with CO, I'm even better than 90% on CO with EUA (better than the CO elites flying on CO ).

Not sure where I'm going, but I'm getting there fast.

It happened to me today. Been Gold for years, WP # in the reservation, should have been upgraded at midnight , called this morning and was upgraded manually.

As the ca-goat, mentioned you have to make sure your name in the PNR matches exactly the name on your WP account. For instance, if you have a middle initial in the PNR and not in the WP computer, the upgrade won't process.

Maybe it is due to the fact that CO and NW take out "F" inventory shortly before EUA runs (at your upgrade window), and then replace that inventory after the "automatic" upgrade window closes. This allows people that want to use miles the opportunity to use them for upgrade, and also leaves more first class seats available for sale.

That being said, I have seen CO do this many times, but never NW. Be thankful that you can actually call and manually upgrade with NW (as OnePass will not upgrade you manually even if the inventory is there).

I've been a Platinum for several years now and while Northwest's upgrades have nearly always happened automatically, Continental used to always skip me. Finally in recent months that seems to have been fixed but I complained several times and I know that NW was checking to make sure that CO had the right information about my Worldperks number in their system.

Every class that I know of gets upgraded automatically for elite members...I'm not sure about the cyberfares, but every discount class that I have purchased was upgraded at the 5 day window for domestic flights with ONLY 1 exception, and that one was upgraded at airport.
I like being platinum!!

Does your reservation include a non-elite member? If it is the case, you won't get the automatic upgrade unless you call in to separate your reservation.

i had a LAS-DTW segment last week that showed P9 F9 going into the platinum window, and my upgrade didn't clear. since i wasn't planning to take the flight anyway, i just let it go to see if the computer would catch it. the connecting leg was upgraded on time. the LAS-DTW segment was automatically upgraded one day before the flight. during that time, availability waffled between P9 F9 and P9 F0.

I have been getting my upgrades, but the upgrade status email lately has been sent in the evenings, after I have arrived at my destination.
