200% Promo Problem
We stayed at Hilton during the recent promo period in November. The room was paid for with my credit card but we provided my husband's ff # because he is in need of these miles to reach elite status. We also provided our joint Hilton Honors #. Everything posted okay on the Hilton site but when they posted to NW, it says "name mismatch." Prior to contacting NW, can anyone tell me what we did wrong? Is it not possible for him to get credit because the room was paid for with my card? (We really need these miles for him to become elite!)

I had a friend who ran into this. Hilton Honors Mutual Fund accounts must be established in one (and only one) spouse's name. Hilton will only give double dip frequent flyer points to airline accounts in that same spouse's name. That is, if the Hilton Honors account is in your name, then you are the only one who is entitled to get miles (not your husband).

Thanks TravelLover,
This helps to know. I will try and get Hilton to separate the accounts and see if that might work.

FWIW, I too have had trouble with a name mismatch and failure to obtain hotel point/mileage credit at NW in the past. Yet I never found out why. I'd wondered whether a prefix such as "Dr" or a suffix such as "MD" or "PhD" would potentially cause this problem!

While I don't know whether a prefix or suffix can make or break the match, I do know that a common source of name mismatches in the NW system are cases such as "William, Bill", "James, Jim", "Richard, Rich, Rick", etc. -- if a given name is not used consistently re: member name in various programs, name mismatches can result when reconciliation w/ the FF acct is attempted.
I'd recommend calling NW customer support--they should be able to determine the specific nature of a name mismatch, which should render a logical (& hopefully practical) route to resolution.
