The start of the 2007 program year

Sort of...So hopefully this isn't a duplicate, but just noticed on my nwa.com summary:

01Mar2007-29Feb2008 Platinum Elite

TheMadBrewer Jan 3, 2007 12:33 am

Cool! Makes me feel more comfortable about all those zeros. And we get an extra day of status! :)

DanTravels Jan 3, 2007 1:52 am

Oooh, shiny!

I got one of those showing up now, too. I like it. :D

slippahs Jan 3, 2007 2:03 am

Shux, looks like NW's giving me the status drop down a level. :(

Close this year but couldn't keep my tier.

You will excuse me dear friend if I don't cry for you too much while you are using your plethora of SWUs to PVG and flying in F to OZ on some other carrier that shall remain nameless.:p ;) :D

PE noted now for me as well!!

Congratulations on your Plat status for 2007. You certainly earned it and I expect that you will be upgraded 99.9% on NW domestic flights.

Yes, my first trip this year will start in a week from BOS to HKG on some carrier that shall remain nameless. ;) ;)

I have a comfy 15A business class seat on the upper deck of 744. I only paid $1,100 coach fare, upgraded by SWUs.

Subsequent trips on business class are booked for Feb. and April, to Shanghai and Beijing, with 15A as my official seat. :) :)

Yes, don't cry for this Base Member.:D :D

I think that NW made the correct call by offering no soft landing to me.

If someone only had 6,000 EQM in 2006, he does not deserve any elite status.

Elite status, IMHO, should only reflect current loyalty to the airline. For that, I am not complaining. ;) ;)

Seattlenerd Jan 3, 2007 8:45 am

No soft landing

01Mar2006-28Feb2007 Platinum Elite
01Mar2007-29Feb2008 Silver Elite

I purposely flew fewer miles on NW in 2006 due to its labor thrashing about, so I didn't expect a soft landing with 30K+ EQMs.

My current plan is to credit miles on NW only through 28 Feb when I lose Plat status (in the hopes of an upgrade on those flights), then credit it all on AS Mileage Plan, where I'm an MVP Gold. I get the same seat selection preference as an NW WorldPerks Elite through my AS status, and this will help me requal as AS MVP Gold even faster.

Besides, living in SEA, getting any kind of upgrade as a Silver is, well, long odds. It was tough enough as a Gold and then a Plat.

fti Jan 3, 2007 8:48 am

I wish my account summary would show Platinum Elite for 2007/2008. I am still waiting for miles from my AZ flight YYZ-MXP taken on December 26th to post. Once this and the C class bonus post, I will gain PE status. Any idea how long it will take?

OutOfOffice Jan 3, 2007 8:52 am

This should be a point of refrence thread for anyone later in the year wondering if NW offers soft landings cause mine is a crash landing :)

Oh well, guess I'll need to update my profile at the end of Feb.

Seen a few crash landings in this thread. I'm just curious whether it was a reduction in travel plans or did you purposefully fly another airline?

crash landing here, too, but with exactly 0 EQMs, what would you expect?
both a reduction in travel plans from August on, and purposefully avoiding NW from Jan to Aug.

I had more than 100,000 EQMs on United in 2006.

Only if NW offered systemwide upgrade certificates to Plats and resumed nonstop flights to China, then I may return   ....

gldwebs Jan 3, 2007 9:47 am

Same crash for me...only flew 20,000 eqm last year due to uncertainty (I prefer to get to my destination at some time)...went from PE to base.

Of course I already have 35000 miles booked between now and Feb 12th so lets see what they do.

Maybe I am the only one hoping SWUs are the new exciting change to the WorldPerks program this year?

As I am not familiar with SWU, are these used for international travel?

On United (AA is similar):

1Ks (100,000 EQMs in a year) receive 6 SWUs.

These lovely certificates can be used to upgrade to business class, system wide, e.g. BOS-SFO-SYD (or LHR-SFO-SYD!!!), confirmed at booking if there is space.

You need to buy W class or higher coach fares in order to use SWU.

Currently W fare to China, for example, looks like $900 in low season and $1,050 in high season.

SWU is a tremendous benefit for UA high mileage elites flying international.

I wrote a letter to NW management last month indicating that lack of SWUs is a major flaw in the WorldPerks loyalty program.

Maybe SWUs are coming to NW 2007 Program. ;) ;)

Is a W fare about equivlent to NWA V fare?

Hmm... I've only flown SEA-MSP and MSP-SEA (different months) as a SE, but got EUA'ed both times. YMMV. :)

Pick2LiteMSP Jan 3, 2007 10:18 am

Just got off the phone with WP Elite line. Had to have my Jan current trips updated with PE status for EUG.

The WP agent told me that she had quite a number of PE's that were a bit short routed over the last week domestically to make the EQM's. Unfortunately, the best fares seemed to include Denver & Chicago and thought that there were probably a number of PE's sleeping in airport due to WX delays.

No falls here -- 2007 PE status gained on MSP-LGW MR with no issues.

UA W fare is often slightly more expensive than NW's V, but more or less the same.

MJLogan Jan 3, 2007 11:28 am

From Plat down to Silver, at ~43,000 miles. Oh, well...

I'd say UA W-fare is a bit higher then NW V-fare... say more similar to a NW Q-fare? NW international V-fare is sort of similar to domestic K-fare... "as low as you can go". If NW were to go with SWUs, it would probably require a NW Q-fare. And even that isn't that bad... DTW-LGW 1/13-1/14 V-fare is $430, while Q-fare is $514. $514 for a C/J-seat... sign me up!!! And if NW were to go with SWUs, my guess is (2) SWUs for Plat, then (4) for each 25k EQM threshhold (then there's rewards for flying more then 75k EQM per year). I'd definitely do the extra 25k EQM for the extra (4) SWUs.

Are you listening, NW? Give us a reason to fly beyond 75k EQM! You think it's a coincidence I stopped flying after crossing the Plat threshhold? :(

Exactly, or give us a reason to fly NW after 75k EQMs. I start switching my travel to CO, who has better service and is about the same price.

slippahs Jan 3, 2007 6:12 pm

Everyone needs to remember that NW didn't evaluate any soft landings until later on in the year in 2006. So there's still hope for those who fell all the way back down to base... except for those who flew 0 EQMs in 2006.

gpan Jan 3, 2007 6:54 pm

I'll be flying close to 25k EQM by 2/28; so hopefully won't have a crash by then :)

SteveinA2 Jan 3, 2007 6:55 pm

Unfortunately

01Mar2006-28Feb2007 Platinum Elite
01Mar2007-29Feb2008 Platinum Elite

but at least 50,000 miles came from just 4 tatl trips so not too much time in the air

01Mar2007-29Feb2008 Gold Elite

Had only 49,909 miles on December 5th, so I did a last minute SEA-MSP-SEA ($169 all-in) mall of america run to put me over for the Gold, finishing with 52,703. I also did 50,000 miles flying with American this year. It's not a crash landing as I was weary about myself getting a soft landing, especially after mostly K class bookings.

I'll miss my Platinum status though beginning March 1, 2007.....

I agree. I'm flying to India this month on AA because my boss offered to give me some of his VIP upgrades which work for a fellow traveler. It isn't confirmed but I've got a decent chance of getting upgraded.

The elite guys must still be deciding what to do with my 2007 status as I don't have anything listed on the website yet. I finished with 68K EQM, purposely under platinum, because I sent NW a letter telling them that I was going to try some other airlines in Q4 because of poor service I received from NW.

I have been thinking about switching to United but haven't done anything yet. I also never got any response from NW although I did say that I didn't want any free miles. I could have easily gotten platinum this year, let's see what they do. United made me a Premier Exec for 4 years after I left them, even though I rarely flew them. I guess that's because they valued me having been a 1K flyer for 5 straight years. I've been a NW Plat for 5 straight years, we'll see if that counts for anything.

Maybe it is the 5 year itch - where I love the airline for the first 4 years and become disenchanted in the 5th? There is a pattern.

Not going to happen. I had three trans-Atlantic roundtrips in WBC over the last two months and had trouble buying J class tickets for the exact times I wanted because they had sold out flights in WBC. Demand has definitely picked up, and with their relatively small business class sections (i.e.: fewer seats than some other carriers), why give away any seats for free?

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to be upgraded to WBC for free, I just don't see that happening.
