Seat Availability Deciphering

Can anyone please help decipher this? I found the link someone posted to find the seat charts and availability, but I don't know what the codes signify. I know that I sometimes fly 'Y' (more expensive) and sometimes 'Q' or 'V' (cheaper).

Here is the seat availability for my next trip. I don't know how to tell if the plane is full or not. Is there any hope they might invite me to WBC (Oh, how I dream!) I'm silver flying out and gold flying back.

Quick answer: at least 9 (probably more) seats available in Coach , your chances of an Op-Up are negligible.

J = Full fare Business
C, Z = Discounted Business Class
(I don't know what "I" is)
Y = Full fare economy
B, M, H, Q, V, L, T, K = Discounted economy, from high to low (K is deeply discounted)

9 is the highest digit you'll find, so that 9 could really equal 50 or it could really be 9.

If you see 9's across the board in economy, my hunch is your chances for an op-up are slim.

Z is also upgradeable fare class for Y,
"I" is for mile upgrade from B.

More I & Z means more possible to OP-UP. (usually they zeros out)

Not quite. The Op-Up happen only if they need the room in coach. What you want to see is Y0 B0....! Only then will they release WBC seats for Op-Ug. So, as far as those upgrades are concerned, the fare available in WBC is irrelevant, just as long as a seat is available to free up a coach seat. NW will fly full coach and empty WBC if they can.

When is your flight? Things can change very quickly! My guess is that, as usual for NW, the planes will be full but not over booked. They are generally good at filling every seat without going over! Now, a storm or mechanical delay can change all that. Just show up at the gate with spare time and ask the GA how full the plane is.

What fare are you flying on? A Y- or B-fare can be upgraded in AMS if seats are available in WBC using miles.
