MSP Ghost Town

There are a fair number of flights that leave after 9PM or 9:30PM at MSP. I frequently take the one at 10:20PM to MSN.

The past few weeks I haven't had long connections, but was a bit hungry or thirsty for a beer.

Fuggedabout it. Everything closes at 9 or thereabouts. Sure, I can get McDonald's or Subway or maybe a single beer (no food) at TGI Fridays in the C concourse.

Any other NW flyers frustrated with this? It seems there's a lot of late flights and you'd think that some of these places could make a bit more moeny if they stayed open till 10, at least.

--and if you are connecting to RST and hungry after 10:00PM, you are seriously SOL. I think it's a Minnesota thing.

Yup, DTW is like that, too, as well as many other airports. I dunno, maybe with the new Rock Bottom Brewery opening up they will stay open later...

I will be on NW98 in November.... It looks like NW allows 8 hours for this flight but it regularly take 4.5-5 hours. This means I'll be getting into MSP around 4am, and my connecting flight isn't until 6:30am to Detroit.

Is there anything to do this hour of the morning? I assume the clubs are not open, nor is anything else.

Go to McDonald's. Yippee.

The part that aggravated me was that I was walking down the C concourse to get to Friday's. Every gate from C1 to Friday's had a flight leaving after 10PM. And yet "last call, no food" was at 9:30PM at Friday's. At some other place, the bartender snapped at me that they were closed just after 9 (even though people had food and full beers at the bar).

Don't count on getting in to MSP at 4:00AM. NW98 may be early sometimes, but it never takes 4.5 hours!

Both clubs open at 5am and there is hardly anyone in there between 5-6am. You'll basically have the club to yourself, especially if you go to the C club as other WorldClub/Elites on your flight may opt for the closer F/G club.

The Dema restaurant in the Westin at DTW is open until 11:00PM (and the bar is open until 12:30AM).

Touche! Thanks for pointing out.

http://flightaware.com/live/flight/NWA98

looks like it cuts off after it hits mainland, nwa.com shows it landing a heck of a lot later!

Unfortunately, retailers (F&B, merchandisers, all included) have their hours of operations bound by contracts with the airport managing company. Believe me, if we could, we would keep our restaurant's open later.

Now, that's the perfect FT tip! How's the food ( usually westins are great and expensive)

I was actually going to comment on Dema a little earlier, but forgot. I've eaten there once for lunch, mainly because I've been through nearly everything the McNamera Terminal has to offer inside security, and I found the lunch to be rather bland. I think I had a Chicken Panini and I don't think it was really any better or worse than what I might have gotten at one of the places inside security. It's a bit quieter to eat there instead of in the terminal, but overall I don't really recommend it unless, like me, you've sampled nearly everything inside security and you've got a longish layover. I did find most of the dishes to be rather expensive for an airport hotel, and a little out of line considering how inexpensive some of their rooms can be. But, there is enough variety on the menu to come away without spending too much if you're concerned about that.

LAX? Really? I flew out of LAX last April on a 1AM redeye and, IIRC, a couple of restaurants were still open at that hour. Then again, the SkyTeam terminal (whichever one NW, AF, and company use) doesn't have much going on in the first place.
