nwa.com getting too cookie/java intensive?
I've noticed over the last few weeks that nwa.com seems to be really slow to load the home page. I've also noticed that there appears to be a lot more use of cookies and java. One thing I've noticed is that it appears that the last searched city pair is being saved, and is being auto-populated on loading the home page.
nwa.com home-page load has always been a teeny bit slow... you'll see it pause, and then load your WP number/etc (on the right). But lately, the home-page loading seems to have gotten worse...
Has nwa.com gone overboard with cookies and java?

I agree with the op -- I don't like the recent "enhancements" to nwa.com, and in fact have problems now more than ever with changing searches. I get the following error too frequently:
I also don't like some of the changes to the default settings, such as the search by schedule for award travel.
In my opinion, the search pages and functionality of nwa.com has gone downhill the past 2 or 3 months.
We're Sorry!

Once you get that screen, all of your search inputs are lost.An error has occurred. Please try again or try back later. For immediate assistance, please contact nwa.com Customer Service at 1-800-NWA-NWKL (800-692-6955).

Well, after logging off and clearing cache, on comcast and 4 year old 1GHz celeron, W2kPro, Firefox 1.5.0.4, it took 7 secs (average of 5 measurements each between 6 to 8 secs).
When logged in it took on average 8 secs. I deliberatelly used a slower computer so that "slowness" was more evident.
I also did not find any trace of java anywhere, but there was plenty of javascipts on the client side.
But I found that they use www.omniture.com to track the visits to the web site.

I can relate to a few of the functionality problems you are encountering lately. I did a web page analysis of nwa.com using websiteoptimization.com. Nothing out of the ordinary, espicially considering only 1/10 of a mb of javascript is employed.
On the other hand, I have always been satisfied with all other aspects of the site -- mainly the organization.
Also, anybody ever have difficulty with Delta's site?

I'm not sure what computers have to do with the title of this thread, but it's been a while since I've had a decent cup of coffee on NW.
If you want good coffee and a fresh-baked chocolate chip cookie, I'd advise flying Midwest Express.

No java. If it ran java, it definitely wouldn't run on my broswer (not to forget Active X). No 3rd party (non-NW) javascript either.

If anything nwa.com isn't sophisticated enough with its cookies and signaling. If they were doing such things correctly you wouldn't have to re-log in constantly when you are doing rewards searches.

Looks like nwa.com recently added a new "feature" where it stores your last fare search from the home page...so now when you go to nwa.com, it loads the last city pair you entered (for me that was SEA-DFW). This is new within the past few days..and it will slightly slow things down as this info is stored in a cookie and the website has to access and read that cookie.

I did some more tests. On my Pentium M notebook the page loads in about 5 secs. The page without pics loads in about 4 secs. Now these are good times.
Also I noticed that docs from view.atdmt.com load always at the very end many times prolonging the total load time. The delay comes from using document.write in JavaScript, which is done at the very end when the page is being rendered.

For the next award fare search I always click "More Search Options" first and only then search.

I was just on NWA.com trying to assess a NW travel package I bought from a Travel Agent. I had the booking # & confirmation #. I called the 1800# for help. "Oh NO, we cannot assist you. You must get all your info from the TA." I just wanted to confirm that a NW flight was switched to a Delta flight. "I cannot help you Call your TA!"

Only stuff bought through NWA direct is on the NWA.com site. I don't even know if I can get my bording pass on-line.
