NW & 7E7

there's been a huge discussion regarding 7E7 and NW on A.net http://www.airliners.net/discussions....main/1616348/. Apparently Boeing is trying to persuade NW to replace their 330 with 7E7.

Any thoughts?

I have a thought.... Why would NW replace the 330s with 7E7? The 330s still have that new plane smell! I know that this next thought is the subject of many other threads on this board, but I'd think NW would be looking at replacemet options for their DC-9s before the 330s.

Correct me if I am wrong, but the last time I looked at the A.net discussion it was all speculation. I would not put much weight on it.

Now, for my speculations, NW has only recently purchased its last (or alsmost last) 757. No rush to replace them yet. New A333 and A332 coming online as we discuss this. Not a great time to trade in planes. I would not look at NW for the 7E7.

Arrow NWA looking at 747-200 and DC10 Replacement Options

I think NWA is looking at the 7E7 or the A340/A380 as possible widebody replacements for the 200's and DC10-30's that will be leaving pax service in the next few years.

I think NWA is just looking for the best deal.

With the USD buying a lot less in Euro's maybe the exchange rate has shifted to Boeing's favor.

Does anyone know when a purchase decision will be announced?

Theoretically, yes, but Airbus has been extremely aggressive with pricing to get market share, so I think they're absorbing any exchange rate fluctuations. Good example is Virgin USA's recent order for narrow-body Airbii. My understanding is they're paying in USD out of their USA division.

I'm hearing that the airline is very impressed with the capabilities of the 7E7, and had a lot to do in the initial design and technical development phase.

I've also heard that they are looking at more 330s or even 340s to replace the DC-10s that remain.

Could also be a mix for all of the above.......stay tuned.

Boeing is probably being very aggressive to get a US launch customer on board for the 7E7, and NW is the only one who is really in a position to buy any planes. The other one, Continental, has already publicly stated that they want it now, but they don't want to and aren't going to pay for it right now.

ATA is pretty much the only one who is guaranteed to buy it, since they will want planes to start flying overseas as they plan. (they will probably lease 767s initially, and replace them with 7E7s as they are delivered.)

Let's get the pilots and other unionized employees onboard with revised wage agreements so that there's a little knowledge about the financial future.

And see how traffic holds up and what the economic situation is.

Then we can start speculating about further aircraft purchases.

Airwhiners.net has an occasional gem, but 90% of those posters are even more ignorant than a few of the posters here.

Witness this thread where up until now thirty-five posters have still not answered the question correctly and none have pointed out that the question is easily answered by looking at a printed Delta schedule, available at most US airports.

I totally agree with you. I'm glad that the pilot union sees that costs need to be cut, and management sees that they need to get the job done right, without going absolute cut-throat. I feel that NW is in good hands. ^

The shorter range 7E7 could be an interesting choice for intra-asia travel from the NRT hub
