Going to Oslo, need help
Hi guys
I'm going to Oslo next week, I would like to know if is far from S station to Grand Hotel?
I will stay 4 days in Oslo, should I rent a car?
It is easy to walk around in subway and bus?
I really appreciate any help
Tks

I would not rent a car for four days in Oslo. As said above, the public transport system is good enough. Toss in a few taxis where needed and you'll be covered well.

How are you travelling into Oslo??
If you're flying in, and then takes the Airport Express Train (Or any other train, for that matter...), there is another Rail Station after Oslo S called Nathionaltheateret (That means "The National Theatre", and the station is situated below ground level almost below the mentioned theatre..), which is much closer to Grand Hotel. Although, the walk from Oslo S to Grand Hotel is not far, I guess 15-20 minutes. From the National theatre it's less than 5..
All local and Intercity trains departing Oslo Airport, stops at Nathionaltheateret, as well as most of the Airport Express Trains.. Some of the Airport express trains (marked OSLO S) travels direct into Oslo S without stops, and don't travel any further either.., and some of them (marked ASKER) will first make a stop at Lillestrm, then Oslo S, and then the National Theatre.. The intercity train will stop at the same stations, and use about 10 minutes more (37 minutes..) to the National Theatre, for about the half of the Airport Express fare.. However, they only depart once every hour.. The local and intercity cost the same, but the local will off course stop at almost every station along the way, and the comfort is far from the comfort onboard the intercity train.
However, enjoy your stay in the capital of our lovely country.

There is a central park that pretty much runs the length, East to West of central Oslo. The Royal Castle sits at the West end, the Grand Hotel pretty much at the East end, and the National Theater in the middle.
If you have a lot of bags and don't want to walk the three or four blocks then go to the South side of the park from the National Theater to catch a cab and the traffic heading back to the East and the Grand Hotel.
Depending on time I would definitely try to catch [1] the Munch Museum, [2] the Vigeland Sculpture Park [3] the view from the Olympic Ski Tower [4] the Viking Ship Museum and [5] the new Nobel Center.

You'll have a good time. If you're planning on using the tram, subway or any buses, I would suggest buying a multi-ride card. The concierge at Grand may help you, I believe there is a convince store on the corner of the hotel that sells those cards. As I hope you are aware of, Oslo is expensive, and a ride around the corner with a cab will probably start on about 15 dollar in the daytime. Limo service is pretty limited in Oslo.
I don't live in Oslo anymore but I visit regularly. As a tourist, you won't need a rental car, which also would be really expensive in Norway.

The city is easily to navigate without a car. Public transportation is good and everything is relatively compact.
I'd also go for the ski-jump view. About a 30 minute ride on the subway for a stunning view of Oslo.

Oslo pass is a must.

Just make sure that you are not on the expresstrain that only goes to Oslo S non stop. The walk up to Grand is quite a hike from there..
To the airport the airport express train leaves every 20 minutes from National: 19, 39 and 59.
People in Oslo like to stay out late and since they recently changed / narrowed the main street Karl Johan, it will get congested at 2-3 in the morning.
I'm glad you had a good time! ^ ^
