Border Control on Train?

Hi GU Wonder-
I have been curious about traveling from Copenhagen to Malmo and if they are coming through the trains to check paperwork. It seems like they didn't do that on your train. Did you have to show your paperwork to get into Sweden anywhere along the way?

My nose thanks Denmark and you for the info.

Sweden has phased out the passport control staffing for Denmark-Sweden crossings by public transit this weekend. No passport control when coming into Malmö from Copenhagen today. Trains from Copenhagen into Malmö are packed like crazy this morning, but part of that could be due to service interruptions. They are packed with mask wearing passengers from Copenhagen being the majority, but then the masks get removed somewhere between Malmö-Hyllie arrival and wherever in Sweden the passengers get off. But by the time the train reaches Lund, the mask use seems to plummet to sub-3% of passengers.

I have my CDC COVID-19 vaccination proof along with me. Just don’t know yet if I’ll be taking the train to Copenhagen today or flying from Sweden to Copenhagen later this weekend (if at all getting back to Denmark before Monday). I’ll be sure to share what I find out from my crossings and those of others.

Sed2125, welcome to (posting on) FlyerTalk.

On Thursday and Friday, Sweden was checking train passengers for ID at Hyllie. That was on the platform or on the train while it waited there.

For the trains today, Sweden was no longer doing any ID checks for border crossing into Sweden from Denmark. Not in Hyllie, nor anywhere else in Skane at least. And I am pretty sure Stockholm isn’t currently staffed to do border control checks for trains coming from Malmo and won’t be like it was some years back. :)

Thank you for the info! If you see the border control again, please repost. :)

I'm confused by all these rules. As a fully vaccinated Canadian citizen and resident, can I visit Denmark for tourism purposes? It would be in August so I'm sure things can change.

It does look that way. Canada is an OECD country (as is the US) so according to this site (https://en.coronasmitte.dk/rules-and...nts-upon-entry) under "If you are travelling and fully vaccinated," you would be eligible to travel to Denmark. The Danish language original seems to indicate the same thing. Some links are not functional as of right this moment or redirect to older guidance. Personally, I'd wait a couple of days to let the new guidance be fully disseminated but it does seem as if there is hope for you (and me) to travel to that destination in August. Keeping in mind, of course, that the guidance could change at a moment's notice...

Thanks! I'll book a tentative flight into CPH in the meantime. Using points with free cancellation so not much risk.

Good luck! I will be monitoring for the next week or two and then might well join you.

If you are looking to use miles, consider getting the bookings done sooner than later. The Danish Embassy in DC was quick to highlight this. https://usa.um.dk/

I already have had people milk the SAS TATL business class space using Lifemiles. And it’s going down to 1 or 0 business class award seats fast in recent days for more and more flights this year. Easy sub-$1600 for round trip business class.

Plenty of economy class award space available on SAS flights to CPH.

I have July 24 flights booked from Toronto connection through the US and Uk. Might look at changing to direct if Air Canada opens flights. UK connection (separate ticket) is my worry, I would be in the airport only a few extra hours but still don’t want that to limit entry. My plan was to continue to Norway after a few days, but that is still up in the air!

I'm also hoping to add Norway or Finland to this trip but they've been more cautious through the pandemic. I think they only opened to Canadians last year for a few weeks.

I created an Avianca Lifemiles account a number of years back, but keep forgetting about it. Is it primarily targeted at business class?

Where do I find current information for entry to Denmark in Danish? At https://coronasmitte.dk/ there's a link reading "Her kan turister i Danmark læse om danske regler for indrejse, test mm." but clicking on the link, the page changes from Danish to English.

Can't you already remove the mask once you're past the Danish flags painted on the bridge?

Life miles is selling miles as low as 1.22 cents per mile. A one-stop award ticket route that combines long-haul business class with short-haul economy class gives and ability to take SAS TATL in business class for a bit under 60k miles each way. In economy class all the way, it’s 20k-30k each way with SAS TATL.

Sure, or even before. But it seems like most people who have gone through the motions to get a mask to use at CPH/in Denmark seem to keep the masks on anyway until after getting off the trains in Sweden or otherwise at some point beyond Hyllie in Sweden.

No one seems to make a big deal about it after the train leaves CPH

Faroe Islands' pages haven't been updated since the Denmark reopening was announced on June 4th, and still says that non-EU travelers would have to have a valid reason for entry and quarantine for 10 days. Anyone have a read on whether this will be updated to align with Denmark's policy soon, or whether we should expect the Faroese to have a different entry policy for awhile

The Faroese and Greenlanders have each had their own COVID-19 restrictions and related timing schedules diverge from Denmark for much of this pandemic. Neither are as urgent about or reliant upon non-European tourist traffic as Danes. Most of the few Faroese with whom I talk tend to have been pro-(more)autonomy from Denmark and aren’t Faroese government types, so I’m probably not going to get a very representative picture of what they may do ahead. The best signals may be to see how/when they ease up on restrictions with regard to travel from the EU as a whole and what they do vis-a-vis travel from Iceland and from Denmark.
