Like many Bay Area United FTers, I've spent a decent amount of time at Logan Airport this past month. All my other mileage runs have had a one hour turn, but this Saturday I have three hours between flights.
Any suggestions about interesting things to do near the airport, assuming that is not enough time to get into the city? Many thanks for any suggestions!

Three hours is a bit scanty. I think getting a good meal is
about all you can hope for: Santarpio's Pizza and several
other interesting places in East Boston, particularly near
the Maverick T stop (walkable from the Airport T stop,
and if the trains are running slow, walking is quicker
anyhow) - get walking directions here from the
Airport T, which you access by a free Massport bus.
There are also several decent Legal Seafoods outlets in
the airport (outside AA security, outside UA security) you
could go to for wholesome if not always inspired sea fare.

3hrs is plenty of time
Hop on the airport shuttle to the blue line MBTA station and a couple of stops will take you to the aquarium station (that shouldn't ever take more than 20 minutes total). From there walk along the waterfront, you can check out Quincy Market or walk a little further and you're in the North End (considered Boston's version of little Italy). If time gets tight you can alway grap a taxi back to the airport ($15-$20 max).

Taking public transportation into the city generally takes 20-30 minutes. What time of day will you be there? What are you looking to do? Eating or walking around for an hour or so both are viable options.

Many thanks for all the great info. I'll be there from about 3:00 to about 6:00 pm, so I'll probably take public transit in to the city and walk around a bit. Thanks again!

You'd be insane to go to Boston in 3 hours. As a MR you're not bringing bags, it'll take you 25 minutes from seatbelt sign off to a taxi cab. It'll take you 15 or so minutes to get downtown. You would need to leave by 4:25 to get back to Logan for your turnaround. So at most you would have 45 minutes in Downtown Boston. Good luck with that if you choose to do so, and have a nice MR

If you decide not to venture into the city, there are a number of interesting restaurants in East Boston within walking distance of the Airport T station (which is a free and short bus ride from the terminal), including Santarpio's for great pizza and Angela's Cafe for wonderful, authentic and inexpensive Pueblan Mexican.
[Edited to add: note that the OP posted on June 3 about a flight to BOS on June 6, but hopefully others will find this useful. OP, what did you end up doing with your three hours?]

I had a 5 hour layover in BOS back in late February.
"I was in Boston last Saturday. Had plenty of time for some shopping, sightseeing, eating and even a trip to the New England Aquarium.
The flight arrived just before 7:50am, and I was downtown before 8:20am. Nothing was open at that hour, so I walked around for a bit and went through Boston Common. Did some shopping as I made my way back up to the New England Aquarium. I spent about 45mins in there. Then I grabbed something to eat in Sel de la Terre just around the corner from the aquarium. I started my return to BOS at around 12:45pm and was in the BOS AA Admirals Club at 1:25pm.
One of the most enjoyable layovers I've ever had!"

Three hours maybe a lot, but to go anywhere but the airport maybe your only solution.
This may help:
Boston Logan help when Waiting
In BOS there's a row of rocking chairs in the AA terminal B "hallway" between the Eagle and main gates. Also there's Chinese Artwork gallery and more rocking chairs in a connection between terminal B and C , not to mention that those rocking chairs in between B & C have an excellent view of the tarmac.

Last United 1K MR...:-) yay!
Glad that I found this thread too...:-)
Today is my last MR, finally made 1k this year...whoosh! lol.
So, tonight I leave SFO on the 1040pm, arriving into Logan at 715am (no luggage due to MR). My rtn flight is the 1230pm BOS-SFO.
I always just hang in the terminal, have lunch, read, etc.
But this time, I am thinking that I do have enough time to leave Logan, grab lunch somewhere by the dock or waterfront right?
Suggestions? Also, having never taken the public transport out of Logan, and I did some Google'ing: I can take the free shuttle from Terminal C to the Blue line train right? and gets me to the waterfront in about 30mins?
What would you guys/gals do?
Mahalo from SFO!
Patrick :-)

When you arrive, head down to the baggage claim level, walk outside, and look for the blue MassPort bus signs. (At the UA terminal, you need to walk across the street to the island to catch the bus.) Take either the 33 or the 55 bus to the subway station (a free, five-minute ride). At the subway station, you can purchase a "Charlie ticket" for your subway fare (you also can purchase it at the airport, near the baggage claim). Take an "inbound" train to the Aquarium station.
If your flight is on time, you'll be at in town by 8am. The Aquarium station is a good starting point for walking around the waterfront, the Fanueil Hall area, and the North End.

Thank you so much Blumie :-)
Yes, I will have a pseudo-lunch scenario happening...lol.
I am excited to actually leave Logan this time for a walk-around and then come back. It'll do me good.
I will report back as to how smoothly it all fared for me.
Again, thanks! Down by the aquarium, I am sure to find some lobster to snack on....:-)

If you're looking for a snack upon arival, the boulangerie at Sel de la Terre, right across State Street from the Aquarium subway station, is a good place to grab a cup of coffee and a bite.
