Cape Cod Traffic
I'll be out in the Chatham / Orleans area of the Cape in mid-August, just wondering if any New England experts could give me some advice on traffic.
I will probably be taking an international flight from Logan on a Sunday night around 7pm and would need to drop off a rental car. Based on your experiences with traffic returning from the Cape, how early should I leave Chatham to make it to Logan in time? Google maps says its 1hr 38m to to Logan, but can't imagine this will be accurate on a Sunday in the summer.
Thanks!

The driving time is pretty exact, if you don't touch the brakes the whole time.
Personally, I'd be on the road by noon to have enough time to check in 2hrs before an intl flight and not be sweating. Pushing it, leave by 1pm. It can easily take an hour or more just to get over the Sagamore bridge and off the Cape on Sunday afternoon.
Yes, traffic is that bad.

The smartguide link talks about dialing 511 on one's cell for up-to-date traffic reports in Eastern Mass. Does that include the Mass Pike at 84, 290, and 495 up to Salisbury or is it geared for driving to/from the Cape?

There was a news report recently that 511 has (and I guess always has been - but recently got a new provider) been outsourced, and the new company handling it has really dropped the ball and service is unreliable. Theoretically, though, it does cover the whole state. The problems have something to do with the keypad selection of the road you're looking for info about.

Once you're in the car, WBZ radio always has traffic on the 3s on 1030AM.
The aforementioned new 511 system is a waste of time. Always seems to pick a different highway than typed in, traffic is NOT accurate, plus the computer voice doesn't call the highways what people here know them by so it's sorta confusing.
