SmarTraveler is going to be your best bet for checking the traffic if you have internet access before you leave.

Once you're in the car, WBZ radio always has traffic on the 3s on 1030AM.

The aforementioned new 511 system is a waste of time. Always seems to pick a different highway than typed in, traffic is NOT accurate, plus the computer voice doesn't call the highways what people here know them by so it's sorta confusing.
