Mazda Miata $80 upgrade/day

I am new to National but got matched from Hertz and wanted to try it out, but I was quoted $80 upgrade/day for a Mazda Miata as a Exc Elite member. Is this normal or is it overpriced?

FYI: It was a relatively smaller international airport.

It's a $27,000 car that makes 181 hp but has a cult following, so you just have to decide whether that's worth it.

That's way overpriced, it's the same category as a Mustang and Camaro convertible (STAR). I've gotten the Miata twice off the aisle in the last few years.

The Miatas at National are probably retractable hardtops in the top trim, so fairly well equipped.

Curb weight under 2400 lbs, so power/weight ratio is decent (in fact, not far off a 4200 lb Charger R/T).

But I wouldn't pay $80/day extra for one.

I've seen them frequently in the Exec Aisle at LAX over the years, and they sit there untaken, no one wants to go near them - way too small.

As others have said, NOT worth +$80/day. You can reserve the convertible class for less than that. I believe their code is CTAR, at least on this 2020 Miata RF barcode I saw at National/Ent/Alamo SFO a couple months ago: https://i.imgur.com/opKd7wB.jpg

Didn't rent that car, but have had a Miata once before and it was super cramped and uncomfortable. I say that as a super lightweight and small person. I don't think 99% of Americans can breathe in a car like that.

Assuming no, but is it a stick shift at least?

Unfortunately not. I am guessing they rarely order stick since most renters prefer auto.
