Well, I diligently performed a search, and could not find this topic addressed in depth.

Yes, I are a smokker. I don't apologize for it, but I do try to be polite about it. However, politeness is but a distant memory after the first 5 hours without a smoke.

So, I'd like to know which (if any) airlines still allow smoking on their flights (LHR, BRU, SIN, HKG, SYD are upcoming trips). Also, do any of the US ff lounges still have smoking sections? I'd hate to spend the money on a membership and then spend all of my time in the glass cage. (Though I do love the cages; especially the little kids that point and say "Look at the smoker mommy!" in the same tone of voice they use at the zoo.)

Toadie, I know that the Chicago (ORD) United Red Carpet Club has a smoking lounge (cigarettes only, no cigars or pipes), but that's the only one I know of. By the way, I hear it will stunt your growth.

There are very few U-S airlines that allow smoking, and its on the rare overseas flights.

Most airports (I think EWR) are smoke free. you have to go outside to smoke.

I would check the airports websites fi they have any on smoking rules.

SFO and LAX I believe have smoking rooms. So does IAD but smoke early: far from the gate!

For the record: I am NOT a smoker but I respect a smokers rights to free expression as long as they are not intrusive.

I would also suggest if you are going on a long flight find something to calm you down or take your mind off smoking. It can be brutal (Like a CATMAn without his PEPSI!)

And on an OMNI NOTE: I have to try a Cigar sometime. So sorry I missed PremEx's post Boston F-T cigar party!

Thanks, PremEx & Catman. Usually the trip to LHR doesn't bother me too much. Just bring a can of Skoal & hope I don't gross out whomever is sitting next to me. It's the long haul & layovers to A/P that have me worried!

LAX is an entirely non-smoking facility, I believe. Most ff lounges (certainly the AA ones) will allow smoking if the airport allows it.

Hammertoad - I seem to recall there being a smoking section in Miami's Admiral's Club (terminal 5, I think it was)

would chewing Nicorette or using a nicotine patch (if you can get some) be of any use? I know it isn't as good as a cigar, but it will help to keep that nicotine craving under control.

Hammertoad: Great new!!! Alaska still allows smoking, but you must first step outside to do it! What would you expect from a past smoker (13 years and still just one day at a time!)

At LAX, in terminal 6 (shared by CO & UA) the is a outside smoking area, it is on the left side of the concourse, within security, past the Presidents club. As an ex-smoker I know what it's like.

Hey babs, I've tried & tried and I just can't seem to get those patches to stay lit! Seriously though, it's not just the nicotine; there's nothing quite like that first bout of hacking and wheezing that comes with the after-dinner smoke. Even better, the first one after a (hopefully) long snooze.

Smoking section is the wing on Alaska, eh ranles? Believe me - there have been times when I would've gone out there!

Something sticks in my memory that (Air France?) had/has a glassed in smoking area on their inter-continental flights. Or am I dreaming?

Forget LAX (except for the outside area at Terminal 6) or SFO or any other California airport...smoking indoors in any public building is now a no-no in the entire state.

Hammertoad (I LOVE that name!):

It doesn't matter how tight you roll 'em, there's no way to keep those patches lit! The only solution on long flights is to cut the top and bottom of the cigarette pack off and light the whole thing at once. When you've smoked it down, you SHOULD have enough nicotine in your system to last you until tomorrow. Of course, you have to handle the staggers well enough to get through security after you're done!

Hey PremEx -- I know about the LAX situation but when last through SFO in November (and hopefully NEVER again!!!), I was able to sit in the glass booth, breathe deeply and not even bother to light up!

Thanks for the site! I noticed that most of the airlines that do allow smoking -- is it the passengers or the engines that are smokin'???

Cool site, k. Though I must say I agree with onefreeman. I suppose I could save my eyeshades from the UA amenity kit and use it as a blindfold? (The condemned are still offered a smoke, aren't they?)

Looks like it will remain Skoal Bandits, patches and never-never land pills for me. Either that or pay the 2000 fine for tampering!
