Bank of America

Bank of America offers $125 if you open a new online checking account and if you pay a bill online before Nov 30.

http://www.bankofamerica.com/promos/jump/checkingoffer/

Now, the interesting thing I found was you can fund the new account with a credit card (MC or Visa). My MBNA card treated it as purchase.

With the double/triple miles offers going on now, this can be very lucrative for opening a account with them and then using the same money to pay it off!

But the maximum you can charge is the minimum to open the account - in my state $100. Then there are the monthly fees

Thanks for the tips but too many gotcha's for me.

$150 worth of income? Isn't it just $125, or am I missing something?

minimum $1000 deposit to get the standard checking account without fees. maximum opening deposit online is only $100, so you have to call in to waive the first month's fee prior to funding the account to > $1000.

if you're a student, you can create a student account with no fees at all.

Has anyone done this? I am thinking about it, but I am a little concerned that I may have to wait for them to mail me passwords etc. before I can set up the bill pay and the first bill must be sent by Nov 30, is there enough time now? I would appreciate it if anyone knows how the BofA process works.

Thanks

You can get a free, no minmimum balance account for free three different ways. Info here: http://www.bankofamerica.com/deposit...k_acct_choices

I have the MyAccess account and am quite pleased with it.

Note that once you have an account, you can then get a mileage producing debit card, good on many (but not all) PIN transactions, and with up front miles for first use. Info on the banking section of the Finance page of my web site below.
