I know last year there was postulating that if you status matched with NW you might preserve your status match with DL. Does anyone know if that ended up being true, or has too little time passed to really know?

Yes, this was true. Not only did I get GM status with DL but also a soft landing to SM the following year ^

Really? I tried this about a year ago, wanting to fly EK business class for several trips and they refused........

Who did you contact and what did you need to provide? Maybe they have changed their position on this. If I could get matched it would tempt me to fly them.

I guess for me it happenned because they hv increased their frequencies from my base location CCU to 12 flts a week and my travel pattern in mostly CCU to Europe.. it may hv also helped that i flew to PRG abt 4 times last yr from CCU ( all on LH) and now EK has PRG as a new destination and hence may be promoting that..I had sent them the detailed statement of last 1 yr whic had abt 7 trips between India and Europe and all on LH.. EK flies to all these destinations and hence may hv acted in my favour..

I wrote to EK India customer care and it was routed to EK CCU sales office which spoke to me before doing it..

I would also consider this match if EK would allow 3 pieces for gold and also was part of an alliance...

while i took it, I will be checking it in detail whether its worth to fly EK .. since wht I basically need are free flights in Y within India ( where EK is quite decent with partners) and flights abroad ( where there fare badly compared to * Alliance).. But good to have status at the begginning itself..and ofcourse we never know when i need to fly some which are simply more comfortable or EK is one of the better options..

So maybe it makes more sense to stay on AS this year, get gold and status match to 1P next year and then have a whole year to earn my 50k EQM

I submitted a status match yesterday to DL via fax requesting Plat Medallion for my current CO Plat status...sent a letter saying that I was formerly Gold Elite on NWA, but switched to CO when I moved to the DC area (also a copy of my plat card and a recent statement). In my request, I noted that I was concerned with the CO/UA merger and would like to return to Sky Team...not exactly true, but I'm hoping this works as I have to travel on some DL TPACs in Y later this year...will stick with *Alliance for the long-term. Am a little worried though as I only have 16k EQM this year on CO...I'll still hit plat with end of year travel, but am wondering how this will influence DL's decision.

Anyone else tried this approach? If so, what was the lag between the request and when you heard back?

Highly doubtful now that they're in the same alliance and trying to merge. Look up thread I believe people have reported failures ever since CO entered Star.
