Upgrade availability game-Northwest
Anyone having this same problem?
The last two times I have tried to book flights trans-pacific through Northwest, they haven't had any available dates--sometimes for months at a time. I guess I though that given a month, they could come up with one date to fly, as I am very flexible. Their advice: call back every day until the day of your flight to see if any seats are available (they won't tell you how many seats in World Business Class are taken/purchased). This worked for me last time, but what a hassle! Once I boarded the plane (DTW to Narita), World Business Class was only about half full. Maddening! My gut tells me that they are a) trying to squeak the change ticket fee out of people who want to use their miles to upgrade from a non-refundable fare, or b) try to convince people like me to buy a fully-refundable coach fare at a 2000 dollar premium and then use my FF miles to upgrade. Either way, I don't think this is the way to keep your best customers. After all, I wasn't trying to upgrade from some discounter fare....

Hi WorldPerksJunkie and welcome to FlyerTalk.
This question is airline specific and should be addressed in the NorthWest Airlines forum. I'm going to move it there now.
From the main FlyerTalk miles page, scroll down to NorthWest.
