Still get double Miles if I close account?
My Delta Amex Card is annual fee free for a few more days. I don't want to pay the $85 for another year as I have received a starwood amex and will want to use it ($30/year plus starwood bennies).
Do I still get the double miles if I close the account or roll it into my starwood account?

No.
My wife just did that and no bonuses are posted after the cancellation regardless of when earned.

I don't know for sure if this will work; however, you can try paying the fee, but don't use the card. After a month, call back, cancel the card and ask them to refund the fee.

I was in the same situation... I called right at the end of the free period to cancel, and they offered to transfer the account to Optima. No annual fee, and you don't lose points, but future points only accrue at 1 for every $2.

No, you wont get double DL miles or any DL miles after you cancelled the card - I'm in the same situation. By the way, they let you shift the account to Hilton and you'd get 10,000 sign-up points.
I did not even bother to try double miles promo, as it took me six month to get double miles for December promo. And I believe some people are yet to receive triple miles for October.
I fell relieved that I don't have to shake'em for points any more - they have by far the worst record of posting any bonuses, and as their promotions are plentiful, the aggravation is bottomless.

Wow, I'm surprised by these answers. I've never lost any earned miles (Amex or any other card) just because I close the account. I always got the miles that I had already earned. I had closed my Delta Amex around November and I still got the triple miles from October around April, or whenever that was when we all called to complain.
