Can I get miles for two seats?

I am a big guy. I can fit into the coach seats on nwa, but not comfortably. When I can, I like to fly wbc for this reason. I have noticed that it is sometimes less expensive to buy two coach seats than one business class. Is this possible? If I buy two seats together, and occupy both of them, would I get double miles? If so, would I get double elite qualifying miles? It would be more miles for less money than the 1.5 for business class. This question is about nwa for me, but could apply to any ff program.

Good question. I once read that Yo Yo Ma gets FF miles for his cello which he hand-carries onto the biz class seat next to him...

You should. The airline sells you two seats, and you fly in them. Seems like you have a pretty good case.

SoHighFlyer, I'm in the same situation as you and I'm sorry to say no double miles (especially status miles!) for buying two seats--at least I've yet to find an airline that allows it. Its a total rip-off. However, I've been toying with the idea of buying 2 seats, one through CO, one on NW, one using my OnePass FF number and one using my WP FF number, and at least in theory, each FF account should earn miles. Maybe I'll actually try it one day.

The same Cello that he left in the back of a Taxi cab a few months back!

Have you considered what would happen if no two seats are avaliable next to each other

Why do you think I haven't tried it yet????

I'd gladly buy an extra seat....if I got status miles for it.

KLM will give you miles for 2 seats - but only status miles for one. I think the same with BA - It depends on the airline.

I recall reading a story about a musician that bought seats for his cello (it wasn't Yo-Yo Ma, but similar situation), and his cello actually had a FF account, earned miles, and redeemed free tickets.

I'm sure someone with more free time can Google it.

Is this true Erik as someone on the KLM website forum claimed they didn't get miles for 2 seats .

The typical deal is that the second seat costs 50% of the price of the first seat. The second seat earns miles, but no bonus miles and no status miles. Of course, this may vary from airline to airline.

I've been tempted to try crediting one seat to UA M+ and the other to LH M&M. I'd love to hear from someone who has tried something like this.

Maybe I'm missing something here, but if you could get miles for purchasing 2 seats, why can't I when I purchase 2 tickets on my CC, although the other one is not for me, yet the other person is not claiming any miles, or for that matter does not even have a FF account with the airline?

You can purchase even 100 tickets or more on your CC but you need to credit the mileage to the each appropriate FF account. Use the other person's FF account for your own personal gain since you paid for these miles.

IMO, it makes no difference whose CC account was used as long as a ticket was bought and issued in Mr. Joe Blow's name and Mr. Joe Blow flew the flight.

So, if you buy 52A for Joe Blow and credit it to UA MP and 52B for Mr. Joe Blow and credit it to LH MM then I see no reason why you shouldn't get miles in both respective programs. You paid for TWO different seats and you credited them to TWO different programs.
