Irrational Itineraries -- Uncoupled Couple

A week ago, Jim and I flew from the San Francisco Bay area to Tampa (yup, again). Because I'd made my travel arrangements in January, it made fiscal sense (if not sense sense) for me to stay with those plans whilst booking for Jim the cheapest UA seat we could find (which wasn't especially cheap at six days prior to flight but that's another story).

Thus, Jim flew out of SFO at 8am, connected through IAD and arrived Tampa circa 7pm (with only one bag missing). I flew out of SJC at 10am, connected through ORD and arrived Tampa circa 10pm (with no missing bags because I let Jim check my bag . . . yes, it was the missing one).

Similar experiences out there?

Frequent flier miles are really great for last minute trips - provided seats are still available you may be able to fly together.

Good advice, pgupta. Especially when only one upgraded seat is needed. I continue to encounter difficulty in obtaining TWO upgrades when needed.
