United-Delta partnership

I have a flight scheduled in May on United, PHL-HNL. I would like to post these miles to my Delta account, however I have been hearing that this partnership may end due to the United-USAIR partnership. I know Delta is ending its partnership with Hilton. Does anyone know what the status is with United-Delta?

The status at present is status quo.

Despite United trying to buy USair 2 years ago, and their codeshare agreement this past year, and the DL/NW/CO alliance announced (also last year), I NEVER heard anything about the United-Delta partnership changing. Lots of rumors expecting it to be changed, but never anything definitive.

This is especially surprising since I believe the USair-AA codeshare (and FF redemption) was cancelled was because USair was willing to be bought by United (and it never got approved!).

I don't understand the logic of the DL-UA arrangement, but I'm glad it still exists.

Remember that only United-operated flights count for DL status (no express/codeshare/etc.).

We flew United a while back, gave our skymiles #, and waited but the miles never posted. I inteaded to follow-up, but never did. How long after a flight can you get Delta miles for a partnership flight? I'm not sure I even have the info anymore but am curious.

been following this one a lot lately.

What I do know is this--and some know all this anyway but I thought I'd compile it here:

1) UA + DL still as it was: not for international and not for codeshare or express. Just straight flights, and no stopovers. You call the airline from which you are taking the award to book on the other. That is unchanged.

2) slpflyer, get on it! take copies of all tickets, notes, boarding c\ards, etc and write em a letter simply explaining what you just said here. If all is correct there should be no time limit on this one. I have done domestic DL and UA flights that do take a while to credit but am on it til they do. I just have a folder kept handy with everything needed til I see my miles post.

I would not worry about NOT being allowe dto get UA miles on DL or DL miles on UA until THEY announce it, but keep records and be prepared to send copies in to whichever airline you want the miles on if they do not come in within a few weeks. Again: slpflyer
get on it! You will be fine.

3) yes, DL===>HH is ending and you need to get your DL miles out ASAP. They have to be sent to you so that the certs that DL mails you are dated before FEB 28. Dont wait til last minute! The miles are transferrable in 5k increments and take more than 60 days to credit to HH once they get them signed from your mailing to them. But yeah, you can check more relevant threads there. But we know all this.

4) US Air and UAL: you can get miles on both by flying both, but you cannot yet USE miles on either to fly either. I have heard APRIL. Many agents talked to said they believe it will include UAL express and code share flights but dont know yet. This may effect the DL relationship so I would imagine that things will change soon. However, right now, you can earn on 3 carriers in the US which is nice. take it while it lasts and just keep records.

5) Now, if you wanna try to send those boarding cards and ticket copies into partners overseas that you have FFp on... you can! You get the miles there or here... even for domestic flights. Just tell them you forgot to do it at the counter and be sure the miles are not already being credited to the local carrier.

I was booking award travel on United yesterday and asked if the agent could find something on Delta metal. She had no qualms about looking, though she didn't find anything. Probably something to do with when and where I am going, Hawaii over Christmas.

The skinny is: Delta and United agreement is unchanged.

Just recently booked award travel on Delta using UA miles. No problem whatsoever. I'm trying to burn off my UA miles as quickly as possible so as to avoid what is IMHO the inevitable.

This was not my experience. Hilton posted my points within 2 1/2 weeks of the day I *mailed* the Delta certificates!!

... I don't think so, no United flights count for status on DL ... maybe you mean count for just miles?

I also just obtained a Delta award two days ago using UA miles, as UA had no availability anywhere remotely near the dates I needed. And anyway, the DL flights were more convenient for me. I don't know whether it's because everyone is frantically trying to redeem their miles before this Titanic sinks, or whether UA is being excessively stingy with availability, but I am getting increasingly frustrated.

This is so funny - I am a PM on DL, called up for the same flights, ORF to anywhere in Hawaii and could not get ANYTHING on DL flights. Just for the heck of it we gave UA flights a shot and I got what I needed for 4 people between Christmas 03 and New Years. It makes you wonder how seats are allocated.

You're right, Beckles. I meant miles, not status.

Thanks Marathon man for the feedback. Now for the ticket receipt and boarding pass search among my files!
