That's awesome...thanks for the info. Does anyone know if cards registered this way are still eligible for the double points birthdays/promo days?? It would be great to consolidate payments!

there is no difference AFAIK.

to be extra clear, im talking about amex platinum ($450/yr) and centurion ($2500/yr) in the united states.

Another great benefit of AMEX and in the US it justifies the fee at least.

In europe you pay 500 EUR for it PLUS 250 EUR application fee. It includes a full Priority Pass though... but for an annual fee of 1100 USD it is a little bit ridiculous

Neiman Marcus would send you a statement each month, which you would pay with a paper check or through your online banking electronic billpay, same as any other card.

Before Diners Club, American Express, Master Charge and BankAmericard (as they were originally called), virtually all US department stores, gasoline companies, and various other merchants issued cards that were valid only for purchases at their own establishments. They sent a bill through the postal service and a typical middle class household wrote many checks each month to settle these various accounts.

Department stores are no longer local businesses and their share of the consumer goods market has declined. Along the way they have sold their charge card businesses to financial institutions. Macy/Bloomindales and Sears cards are issued by Citi. Saks and Neiman Marcus/Bergdorf cards are issued by HSBC. Lord & Taylor cards are issued by GE. Nordstrom has created their own bank. Typically the banks have transformed the store accounts into general purpose cards, but the pure "charge account" cards remain.

The Neiman card that would be issued today can be used only for purchases at Neiman Marcus and associated companies. This will change when HSBC issues the Neiman Marcus branded general purpose card. When HSBC launched the Saks World Elite Mastercard they grafted it onto the existing SaksFirst rewards program in a way that was confusing. Let's hope they do a more elegant job of integrating InCircle with the forthcoming card.

Note that if you use your Amex Platinum or Centurion you will NOT any bonus incircle points. For example, if you shop at Neiman on a double point or 1000 point bonus day, you will only earn the standard points if you use your Incircle registered Plat/Cent, but you will earn the double and/or 1000 point bonus if you use your Neiman charge card. I found this out the HARD way this year. I still had enough points to pick up several Carey limo certificates though.

the BG page there specifically mentions double point events, and i would have sworn it used the say the same thing in relation to NM.

Hmm, interesting. At NM, you get "double points" in the sense that you earn one Amex MR point and one InCircle point for every dollar you spend at NM/BG on you REGISTERED Amex Platinum/Centurion.

Here's how InCircle double or bonus point events work at NM. On a 1000 point bonus day, if you make a $500 purchase at NM on your NM charge card, you will earn 500+1000=1500 InCircle points. If you put that $500 purchase on your Platinum/Centurion card, you do not earn the 1000 point InCircle bonus, so you'll earn 500 InCircle points and 500 Amex MR points.

The solution is to use both cards. On normal days I use my Platinum at NM. On bonus days I use my NM charge card.

From the page you listed, it looks like double point events work at BG. Very odd. I spoke to InCircle several weeks ago and they told me that bonus points never work with Amex, but maybe she was referring only to NM, and BG is different. I'll call InCircle next week and ask for clarification. If the Amex worked during those event, that would be great, you'd be earning double InCircle points AND MR points!

The "glory days"of NM were wonderful.The parties were great,we had a "never say no"policy that really empowered the employees-whom were treated wonderfully by the company.
That all came to a screeching halt about 4 years into my tenure there.I spent 6 more years in two locations watching the chain scale down its parties,become less specialised,hiring less wonderful sales people and execs,and generally becoming more generic.
I was offered another job by one of my customers-and happily jumped ship.

So Dogmom11-I just wish you could have been at the parties NM USED to throw!Blows the current InCircle nights out of the water.
